Job description

Project Manager - Mechanical Building Systems Location: Vancouver, BC Job Type: Full-time Salary Range: $95,000 - $120,000 annually A respected Canadian engineering consulting firm is looking for a Mechanical Project Manager to join its Vancouver team. This role is focused on the delivery of mechanical building systems projects across complex commercial, institutional, public-sector, residential, and community-focused environments. This is a strong opportunity for a mechanical engineering professional who enjoys leading projects, coordinating technical teams, working directly with clients, and helping bring well-designed buildings from concept through construction.

The Opportunity As a Mechanical Project Manager, you will help guide mechanical building services projects through planning, design, documentation, coordination, and construction support. You will work closely with internal engineering and design teams, clients, architects, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and approval authorities. The role requires someone who can see both the technical details and the broader project picture.

You will help manage scope, schedule, budgets, deliverables, communication, quality control, and stakeholder coordination while supporting a collaborative project team. This is a good fit for someone who is organized, practical, technically strong, and comfortable being a key point of contact on active building projects. What You'll Be Doing You will: Oversee mechanical building systems projects from early planning through construction-phase support.

Help establish project approach, technical direction, design priorities, and delivery milestones. Coordinate HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and related mechanical systems with other building disciplines. Work with clients, architects, consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal team members to keep projects aligned.

Review drawings, specifications, calculations, reports, and construction-phase submissions for quality and completeness. Support the development of mechanical design concepts, equipment selections, layouts, and technical documentation. Monitor project progress, budgets, resourcing, fees, timelines, and changes in scope.

Identify coordination issues, technical risks, constructability concerns, and project delivery challenges early. Provide direction to designers, technologists, and drafting/modelling team members. Support construction administration activities, including site coordination, shop drawing reviews, change documentation, and responses to project questions.

Interpret relevant codes, standards, energy requirements, and authority expectations as they apply to project work. Maintain clear communication with senior leadership regarding project status, risk, budget, schedule, and client needs. Lead or participate in project meetings, client discussions, design reviews, and technical presentations.

Help maintain strong internal documentation, quality control, and project administration practices. Support fee tracking, billing coordination, and project financial follow-up where required. What You Bring The ideal candidate will have: Several years of experience in mechanical building systems design, coordination, or project delivery.

A professional engineering designation, eligibility for registration, or a senior technical background with comparable project experience. Experience supporting mechanical projects in British Columbia or another Canadian building code environment. A strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection coordination, and related mechanical building systems.

Familiarity with applicable building codes, energy standards, industry guidelines, and authority review processes. Proficiency with common design, drafting, modelling, and coordination platforms used in building services consulting. The ability to coordinate internal design teams, external consultants, contractors, and client-side stakeholders.

Experience reviewing technical documents, drawings, specifications, calculations, and construction-phase submissions. Strong communication skills and the ability to manage client expectations throughout the project lifecycle. Practical judgment, organization, and the ability to manage priorities across multiple active projects.

Comfort working with senior leadership on project scope, scheduling, resourcing, budget tracking, and risk management. A collaborative approach to resolving design, coordination, site, and delivery challenges. Nice to Have Experience with complex building projects in British Columbia.

Exposure to high-rise, institutional, healthcare, education, transit, government, or large commercial projects. Experience with sustainable design, energy-efficient systems, or green building certification programs. Prior experience in a consulting engineering environment.

Familiarity with construction administration and site-phase project support. Why Apply. This is an opportunity to join a well-regarded Canadian consulting environment where mechanical building systems work is tied to meaningful, technically challenging projects.

The team values quality design, practical problem solving, mentorship, collaboration, and long-term client relationships. The organization offers: Competitive compensation. Flexible scheduling.

Comprehensive health and wellness benefits. Health spending support. Retirement savings support.

Employee ownership or long-term participation programs. Paid time off options. Transit-related support.

Team, community, and social events. A professional environment with strong collaboration and technical mentorship. Compensation Transparency The expected compensation range for this role is $95,000 - $120,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.

This role may also include additional compensation and benefits such as health benefits, health spending support, retirement savings contributions, employee ownership or participation programs, paid time off options, and transit-related support.
