Job description

Senior Project Manager โ€“ Automation & Controls

Location: Plano, or Tomball, TX

Salary: Up to $170,000 base + benefits

Industry: Automation, Controls & Systems Integration

The Opportunity

We are working with an established Houston-based automation and systems integration company that is looking to add an experienced Senior Project Manager to their team in Plano, Texas.

This is a great opportunity for a Project Manager with a strong technical background in automation, controls and systems integration who wants to take ownership of complex projects from initial engineering and design through to programming, testing, commissioning and final delivery.

The company works across a wide range of automation and controls projects, including E-Houses, Data Centers and Oil & Gas, offering the opportunity to work on large-scale, technically challenging projects across a variety of industries.

The Role

As Senior Project Manager, you will take ownership of automation and controls projects, working closely with customers, engineering teams, programmers, vendors and field personnel to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.

This is a technical Project Management position, so we're particularly interested in candidates who have come from an engineering or programming background and have progressed into project management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead automation and controls projects from initial concept and engineering through to commissioning and completion.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, resources and customer deliverables.
  • Work closely with controls engineers and programmers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide technical oversight across PLC, HMI, SCADA and control system projects.
  • Review engineering designs, programming and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate FAT, SAT, startup and commissioning activities.
  • Manage customer relationships and act as the primary point of contact throughout the project.
  • Coordinate internal engineering teams, subcontractors, vendors and other project stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage project risks, changes and technical issues.
  • Monitor project financial performance and ensure projects remain commercially successful.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with customer specifications and required quality standards.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who understands automation from the ground up, rather than a traditional Project Manager without a technical controls background.

You'll ideally have:

  • Proven experience managing automation, controls or systems integration projects.
  • A strong background in industrial automation and control systems.
  • Previous hands-on experience with PLC programming and developing control systems from scratch.
  • Experience with one or more major control platforms such as Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens and/or Ignition.
  • Knowledge of PLC, HMI, SCADA and process control systems.
  • Experience working with engineering and programming teams.
  • Strong understanding of project budgets, schedules, scope and resource management.
  • Excellent customer-facing and communication skills.
  • Experience with FAT, SAT, startup and commissioning activities.
  • Experience within Oil & Gas, Power, Data Centers, E-Houses, Petrochemical, LNG or other industrial/process environments would be highly advantageous.

Why Consider the Opportunity?

  • Up to $170,000 base salary
  • Join an established and growing systems integration business
  • Work on a wide range of technically complex automation projects
  • Exposure to Data Centers, E-Houses, Oil & Gas and other industrial environments
  • Opportunity to work alongside experienced automation, controls and engineering professionals
  • Take ownership of projects from engineering through to commissioning
  • Strong opportunity for professional and career development
  • Competitive benefits package
