MEP Construction Project Manager

Location: Columbia, MD
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced MEP Construction Project Manager to oversee the successful delivery of complex construction projects involving mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and related building systems. This position serves as the owner's representative, managing project cost, schedule, quality, and overall project execution from pre-construction through closeout. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience supporting highly technical projects such as laboratories, data centers, secure facilities, and mission-critical environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the owner throughout all phases of construction projects.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify risks, resolve issues, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Review and monitor project schedules to ensure feasibility, accuracy, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Track project progress against approved schedules and milestones.
  • Lead or participate in project meetings and document key decisions and action items.
  • Provide quality management oversight, including participation in preparatory and pre-installation meetings.
  • Conduct or oversee quality assurance inspections to verify compliance with contract requirements.
  • Document, track, and resolve project issues in coordination with contractors, designers, and owners.
  • Review change order requests for entitlement, pricing, and scope impacts.
  • Lead or support change order negotiations.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities and oversee third-party consultants working on behalf of the owner.
  • Manage punch list development, project acceptance, and final closeout activities.
  • Verify completion of owner training, warranties, O&M manuals, spare materials, and other closeout requirements.
What We're Looking ForRequired Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of combined education and professional experience in construction management, field engineering, quality management, or related disciplines.
  • Extensive experience with Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP), and building systems installation.
  • Proven success managing medium to large-scale construction projects.
  • Demonstrated progression in responsibility and leadership within the construction industry.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience supporting laboratory, data center, mission-critical, secure, or SCIF construction projects.
  • Experience with owner representation, commissioning, project controls, and complex facility construction.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED with significant related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Certifications
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification required or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Preferred certifications include:
    • Construction Quality Management (CQM)
    • Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
    • Journeyman or Master-level trade certification/license
Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of construction management principles, project controls, scheduling, cost estimating, and contract administration.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Expertise in quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based project management systems.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.

Compensation

Salary Range: $110,000 – $185,000 annually
