What does a project management intern do?

A project management intern supports project teams by assisting with planning, scheduling, and tracking project activities. They often use tools like Microsoft Project or Excel, help prepare reports, and coordinate communication among team members under supervision. The role provides hands-on experience in project coordination and basic project management principles.

The Project Management Office Intern role is primarily an entry-level position focused on supporting project teams through administrative tasks and learning about project management. In contrast, a Project Coordinator takes on more active responsibilities in managing project schedules and stakeholder communication. Both roles are essential in project execution but differ in scope and experience requirements.

Is 20 an hour good for an intern?

For a Project Management Office Intern, $20 an hour is generally considered above average for internship pay, which often ranges from minimum wage to around $20 per hour depending on location and industry. Interns typically gain experience and skills in project management tools like MS Project or Jira, and pay can vary based on the company's size and location. It's important to consider the internship's responsibilities, learning opportunities, and whether the compensation aligns with industry standards in your area.

What does a PMO intern do?

A PMO intern supports the Project Management Office by assisting with project documentation, tracking progress, and coordinating communication among teams. They often use project management tools like Microsoft Project or Jira and gain exposure to project planning and reporting processes. The role provides foundational experience in project coordination and organizational skills.

Can an intern be a project manager?

A Project Management Office Intern typically supports project managers and does not usually hold the role of a project manager themselves. While interns can develop project management skills and knowledge of tools like MS Project or Jira, managing projects independently generally requires more experience and certification, such as PMP or CAPM. Interns often focus on assisting with tasks rather than leading projects.
