Principal Associate, Project Management - Business Cards & Payments

Our Command Center team within the BC&P Operating Office is looking for a dynamic Project Manager. This team leads the delivery for some of BC&P's highest priority initiatives. In this exciting role, you will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver and amplify BC&P's most impactful work, solve complex problems from our distinct vantage point, all while balancing strategy and tactics. Our project work runs the gamut, some examples are: launching new products, leading updates to existing products and features, or leading foundational initiatives that enable growth.

The Role

As a Principal Associate, Project Management in the BC&P Command Center, you will collaborate with smart and passionate leaders to influence results that have a direct impact on the company's bottom line. You will lead important and exciting projects from day one, working alongside key stakeholders across the company. Although the opportunities are endless, the core responsibilities of a Principal Associate, Project Management include:

  • Lead moderate to large sized teams on high-priority initiatives and work streams that span across Business Cards and Payments and Capital One

  • Design, develop, and manage project plans and delivery roadmaps in a complex dynamic environment

  • Partner with project customers to provide strategic and tactical recommendations in support of project delivery

  • Drive solutions to complex problems across cross-functional teams by applying sound business judgment to navigate trade-offs between competing priorities

  • Manage a large set of stakeholders

  • Effectively manage scope, schedule, resources and budget

  • Communicate status, impediments, and risks/issues across all levels of the program

  • Deliver results and influence business outcomes across all levels of the organization

  • Influence and manage stakeholders/Intent owners across COF ranging from VP+ to associate

The ideal person will:

  • Be able to act as the lead for large scale initiatives within BC&P, accountable for ensuring on time delivery of mission critical scope

  • Exhibit outstanding influencing skills to effectively and efficiently drive project / program efforts

  • Demonstrate a proven track record of excellent project management, including the ability to thrive in gray space, establish structure and routines quickly, and execute high quality work in a dynamic complex environment

  • Have excellent communication and partnership skills which are essential for interacting and communicating with key stakeholders at all levels across the company to manage, inform, and influence outcomes

  • Ability to set direction, manage expectations, and lead cross-functional teams

  • Confident, respectful, and articulate when registering dissenting opinions with colleagues and senior management

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • At least 3 years of project management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with Google Suite products

  • 5+ years of experience with project management tools such as Jira

  • 5+ years of experience working, supporting or partnering with internal business clients

  • 5+ years of project management experience

  • PMP, Lean, Agile or Six Sigma Certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $120,800 - $137,900 for Principal Project Manager


Richmond, VA: $109,900 - $125,400 for Principal Project Manager










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
