What is a project management contractor?

Project Management Contractors are professionals hired on a temporary basis to oversee and manage specific projects within an organization. They are responsible for planning, executing, and closing projects, ensuring that goals are met on time and within budget. Unlike full-time employees, they typically work on contract for the duration of a project and may manage multiple projects for different clients. Their expertise helps organizations complete projects efficiently without the long-term commitment of a permanent hire.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a project management contractor?

To thrive as a Project Management Contractor, you need strong project planning, organizational, and leadership skills, typically supported by a bachelor's degree and relevant project management experience. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Project, Asana, or Jira, and certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 are highly valued. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities help you build client trust and guide teams through complex projects. These skills ensure efficient project delivery, client satisfaction, and effective team coordination in dynamic contract environments.

What are some common challenges faced by project management contractors and how can they be effectively addressed?

Project Management Contractors often face the challenge of quickly adapting to new organizational cultures and project teams, as they typically work on a contract basis for diverse clients. Building trust and clear communication with stakeholders in a short time frame is crucial. To address these challenges, it's important to establish clear expectations early, maintain transparent documentation, and leverage strong interpersonal skills to integrate smoothly with existing teams. Additionally, staying organized and adaptable helps contractors manage shifting project scopes and timelines effectively.

Headquartered in Chicago, IL, our team partners with mid-market and large manufacturers, as well as private equity firms investing in industrial businesses, to drive measurable financial and operational improvements. Built on a foundation of strategic execution and performance acceleration, Falconi US applies data-driven insights and proven methodologies to help clients optimize operations, improve profitability, and achieve sustainable growth.

About the role:
We are currently building our talent pool of Contractors interested in joining future strategic implementation projects. These temporary assignments typically last around 4 months and require working on-site at various client locations across the United States and potentially on international projects in other countries. As a Contractor, you will support the design and implementation of management solutions focused on improving client performance and delivering measurable results. You will work closely with client teams, applying structured methodologies, monitoring execution, and adapting strategies as needed to ensure project success.

Key Responsibilities:

· Understand the client's strategic goals and ensure alignment between project execution and organizational objectives.

· Collect, organize, and analyze data to generate structured insights and support decision-making.

· Evaluate performance, identify improvement opportunities, and develop action plans.

· Apply methodologies such as PDCA and SDCA to drive operational excellence.

· Develop or adapt tools to automate data analysis and improve decision-making speed and accuracy.

· Manage tasks and priorities to meet deadlines and maintain quality standards.

· Present project findings, action plans, and progress clearly and confidently to client stakeholders.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams and guide team members when needed.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, or related fields (Master’s or MBA preferred).

· Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in consulting, project management, operations, manufacturing, or supply chain.

· Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SQL, R, or Python is a plus.

· Project management certifications (e.g., PMP, Scrum) are desirable.

Preferred Attributes:

· Proactive, results-oriented, and adaptable in fast-paced environments.

· Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

· Self-driven with a high sense of ownership and accountability.

· Comfortable working independently and on diverse, cross-functional teams.

· Willingness and availability to travel extensively and work on-site with clients.

This role requires frequent national and international travel with on-site presence at client locations to implement projects. The Contractor will work directly with client teams, assess operations, troubleshoot issues, and drive efficiency. Travel flexibility (usually from Monday to Friday) is essential based on project needs.
