Prepared Foods Assistant Manager


Reports to: Prepared Foods Manager

Pay Grade: 7 (Full Time, Salaried Exempt)


Supervises: All department staff, along with other members of the Food Services management team. Other managers will primarily supervise to allow for administrative focus.


Purpose: To assist the Food Services Manager in managing the administrative tasks of the Prepared Foods department. Tasks include but are not limited to: scheduling, payroll, ordering, data entry, member sales, and maintaining employee lists to meet all administrative goals for the department.


Job Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Serve customers, including employees, in a prompt, friendly and courteous manner.
  • Ensure proper labeling of all items according to established food safety rules and pricing.

Supervision

  • Assist Prepared Foods Manager in scheduling and training department staff.
  • Understand and be able to delegate and set work priorities for department staff, particularly in the Deli, Cheese, and Beer & Wine departments, when needed.
  • Participate with Prepared Foods Manager in hiring, attending to disciplinary issues with employees, training, and completing performance evaluations per the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Assist Prepared Foods Manager with bi-weekly payroll.

Purchasing

  • Oversee the purchasing and inventory of department products and supplies.
  • Receive orders and update pricing in inventory log regularly in Catapult, the inventory and point of sale system used at Hunger Mountain Co-op.
  • Review invoices as received for accuracy and submit to Finance for payment.
  • Submit credits to suppliers where applicable and follow up on credit receipt.
  • Provide Prepared Foods Manager with pricing indexes and comparisons, as requested.

Technical Support

  • Ensure department compliance with unit pricing.
  • Program and maintain scales to ensure accurate pricing and scanning.
  • Troubleshoot, when necessary, equipment malfunctions across the department, informing the Prepared Foods Manager of equipment needs.

  • Knowledge of natural foods.
