Summary

The primary responsibilities of a Mechanical Engineer includes: researching, planning, and designing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems for ASI's robotic unmanned vehicles. Designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc. Conducts product testing and creates models and prototypes. Mechanical Engineers are also responsible for directing and coordinating activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems. Reports to a manager/supervisor and works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze data including customer design proposals, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Design products or systems for robotic control using electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic principles and components.
  • Participate in fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
  • Coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair activities that optimize utilization of machines and equipment.
  • Design products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software.
  • Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or systems malfunctions.
  • Contribute to design reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 0-2 years Mechanical Engineering related experience
  • 0-2 years of machine & product design experience using Solid Works, Pro-E, or Catia.
  • Must have design experience in CAD/Solidworks software.
  • Have experience using math software like Matlab or Mathcad.
  • Must have good technical writing skills.
  • Basic understand or some experience with GD&T.
  • Familiar with stress analysis and thermal analysis
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuit design
  • Familiar with strength of materials
  • Understanding of fatigue
  • Familiar with Kinematics
  • Experience with finite element analysis.
  • Some exposure to electrical engineering preferred.
