About the Aviation Department

The Kansas City Aviation Department is responsible for managing and operating Kansas City International Airport (MCI) and Kansas City Downtown Airport (Wheeler Field MKC). As an enterprise fund department of the City of Kansas City, Missouri, it is fully supported by airport-generated revenues rather than tax funding. The department focuses on delivering safe, efficient, and cost-effective airport services to airlines, passengers, visitors, and the community. Its operations include overseeing airport administration, maintenance, promotions, and overall system performance while ensuring a high standard of customer service and operational excellence.

    Responsible for leading design and construction teams on schedule and costs associated with landside and airside projects for KCI and MKC.
    Manages the process and preparation of capital projects for design and construction completion. 
    Organizes the capital projects to coordinate with the new terminal program improvements, to keep the existing operations non-impacted and efficient.
    Assists with Deputy Director on schedules and develops costs on the 5-year capital program for the airport and FAA grant related projects defined and approved.
    Perform other duties has assigned.

• An ABET accredited Bachelor's degree in any professionally recognized architectural/engineering discipline as required by the hiring authority. 
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen as prescribed by the City.
• Must successfully complete a 10-year FAA background check.
