Senior Engineer/Project Manager - Urban Development


Role Description: Huitt-Zollars' Rio Rancho Office has a full-time opportunity for a Senior Engineer/Project Manager. The successful candidate will be a registered Professional Engineer in the State of New Mexico with at least 15 years of project management experience in residential and commercial site civil design, drainage studies/design, roadway design, water and sewer design, right-of-way engineering, construction document preparation, and post design construction services. The candidate will manage a team of civil engineers on land development and public works projects primarily in Rio Rancho and Albuquerque with opportunities to work on projects for other offices.

Duties:

  • Serve as the Senior Civil Engineer in the development of feasibility/planning studies, geometric design schematics, construction plans, specifications and cost estimates.
  • Lead daily coordination of urban development projects.
  • Coordinate with PMs, EITs, designers and drafters.
  • Review shop drawings, perform field observations, and facilitate the construction administration process.
  • Develop project proposals, scopes, budgets, and manage execution and tracking of projects.
  • Complete projects within client specifications, budgets and schedules.
  • Assist in preparation of project reports including feasibility studies, implementation plans, engineering summary reports, and drainage impact analyses.
  • Coordinate meetings (on-line and in-person), preparation of meeting agendas, and distribution of meeting minutes.
  • Effectively mentor young engineers and assist in their development.
  • Perform quality reviews of engineering plans for completeness and engineering accuracy.
  • Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business (Seller) or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertakes Project Manager responsibilities for major projects ($2.0+ million annual billing).
  • Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
  • Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client).
  • Contributes to successful delivery and performance of projects.
  • Cultivates relationships with clients and holds strong relationships with clients.
  • Understands, follows, and enforces Huitt-Zollars' business process including weekly rhythm.
  • Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and is responsible for assigned portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Actively engages and participates in the training, coaching, and mentoring of junior staff.
  • Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
  • Registered Professional Engineer in New Mexico.
  • Min 15 years of civil engineering design experience.
  • Proficient in, AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint as well as familiarity with other project management tools such as OneNote.
  • Ability to interact with clients and multi-discipline team members.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
