Location: West Palm Beach, FL

Position Summary
The Project Engineer II is a mid-level, field-focused role responsible for supporting project execution with significant time spent onsite at active construction projects. With a minimum of three years of relevant experience, this role applies advanced engineering principles in soil mechanics, hydraulics, structural theory, and geotechnical construction to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant field operations.
The Project Engineer II works closely with project managers, superintendents, field engineers, subcontractors, and craft teams. This position takes increased ownership of field coordination, production tracking, quality control, and technical problem solving. While some office-based responsibilities are required, the role is primarily field-heavy, requiring extended durations on project sites and direct engagement in daily construction activities. The Project Engineer II upholds Forgen's Core Values and safety culture in all aspects of work.

  • Perform detailed technical reviews of contract plans, specifications, and field conditions; identify constructability issues and recommend solutions.
  • Provide oversight, documentation, and verification of quality control activities, ensuring compliance with project requirements and company procedures.
  • Manage field surveying activities using both conventional and GPS equipment; interpret and communicate layout information to crews.
  • Track daily quantities, production rates, equipment utilization, and workforce assignments to support cost and schedule performance.
  • Prepare daily construction reports, progress updates, and documentation for field records.
  • Coordinate subcontractor activities, monitor work progress, and help resolve field issues.
  • Assist with equipment and material procurement, delivery tracking, and onsite inventory management.
  • Support field implementation of safety, environmental, and quality plans.
  • Provide engineering judgment and technical support to resolve onsite challenges quickly and effectively.
  • Perform additional field assignments and special projects as directed.

Office Responsibilities
  • Support development of project cost estimates, proposals, scopes, and material take-offs.
  • Prepare and update project budgets, schedules, and cost tracking tools with increasing autonomy.
  • Conduct technical analyses and evaluate remediation approaches and lessons learned from past projects.
  • Assist with project controls, including forecasting, production analysis, and cost reporting.
  • Complete administrative tasks as needed to support overall project delivery.
  • Travel to project sites for extended durations as required.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of construction or engineering experience, with a strong preference for heavy civil, geotechnical, or environmental fieldwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a field-based role with extended time onsite.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, geotechnical data, and specifications.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive for company purposes.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Field experience in geotechnical or environmental construction, including earthwork, site surveying, ground improvement, deep foundations, or in-situ stabilization.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and USACE QCS systems.
  • Experience coordinating equipment, materials, vendors, and subcontractors in the field.
  • GPS-based surveying experience and familiarity with machine control systems.
  • Experience developing cost estimates, proposals, and procurement packages.

Preferred Competencies
  • Field Leadership & Problem Solving: Ability to identify risks early, troubleshoot issues, and support safe, effective field execution.
  • Autonomy & Prioritization: Self-directed; able to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities onsite.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Builds strong working relationships with field leaders, subcontractors, and project teams; communicates clearly and proactively.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
This office and field hybrid role requires frequent computer use and effective communication, with occasional travel to project sites as needed. Site visits may involve extended periods of standing or walking and required PPE, with potential exposure to heavy equipment, chemicals, dust, fumes, uneven terrain, and extreme weather.
This job description outlines the general scope of work and is not exhaustive. Employees may be assigned additional duties as needed. Requirements may be adjusted to accommodate disabilities, except where they pose a direct safety risk.
