Job Description

CDM Smith is a multi-discipline engineering and architectural firm. Our firm is responsible for large-scale water and wastewater plant design, transit facilities, industrial facilities, office space design, federal facilities, facility planning and condition assessment work. As a Senior Project Architect at CDM Smith you will have the opportunity to be a part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team of technical experts working on challenging projects in Environment, Industry, Commercial, Transportation, Federal and Water business portfolios. The Senior Project Architect will have the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee and work with junior staff to plan, program, and formulate building design and prepare design presentation and construction contract documents.
  • Develop building design criteria directly with clients. Lead preparation of presentation materials and make presentations. - Lead development and coordination of building design and construction contract documents with architectural and multi-discipline engineering staff.
  • Lead and mentor project architects and junior architectural staff on multi-discipline projects.
  • Determination of construction materials, technologies and methodologies for detailing.
  • Preparation and editing of technical specifications.
  • Confirm compliance with applicable planning, zoning, and building codes and regulations, including coordination with agencies having jurisdiction.
  • Serve as Quality Control and independent reviewer for other architects work.
  • Lead development of project budgets and schedules, both internal and external. Monitor projects through close out.
  • Support sales, partner with Client Service Leaders to meet with potential clients, and serve as a Project Technical Lead for Architectural driven projects.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
  • 11 years of related experience. Must possess RA certification.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Preferred Qualifications
  • National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) Certificate for reciprocity.
  • Experience signing and sealing project documents.
  • Experience in multiple project delivery types including design-build, design-bid-build, construction manager-at-risk, etc.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP).

Skills & Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge and multi-discipline experience in planning, designing, and managing large-scale facility projects.
  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with clients and employees effectively, persuasively, and tactfully at all levels.
  • Expert technical and design application knowledge.
  • Expert knowledge of technologies and methodologies in the use of construction materials.
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling and software, preferably Revit, Navisworks and AutoCAD. Familiarity with rendering software programs.
  • Expert knowledge with Bluebeam Revue.
  • Expert knowledge of basic business office software (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
