Project Engineer - Highway - Rochester, NY
Project Engineer - Highway / Roadway Design
Design Rochester-area highway and roadway infrastructure supporting Fisher's primary headquarters. Projects include sidewalks, trails, drainage improvements, municipal roadway projects, and corridor upgrades across Upstate New York.
In addition to supporting the Rochester market, this technical project role helps advance highway design, roadway analysis, construction support, quality documentation, and mentoring for transportation projects throughout New York, Pennsylvania, and Fisher's broader regional operations.
At Fisher Associates, we are a multidisciplinary design services firm with nine locations nationwide. Our services span civil/site engineering, transportation engineering, landscape architecture, architecture, planning, environmental services, land surveying, GIS, construction inspection, precast, and construction engineering, each offering opportunities to shape communities and improve lives.
What You'll Do
  • Complete highway design, drainage design, alignments, and related transportation engineering assignments.
  • Develop preliminary and detailed design plans, specifications, and cost estimates for projects and infrastructure improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records for design documents, progress reports, budgets, schedules, and project decisions.
  • Coordinate with project managers, technical staff, clients, subconsultants, regulatory agencies, reviewers, and other Fisher disciplines.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support client meetings, presentations, schedule management, and project development tasks.
  • Provide technical support during construction, including RFIs, site visits, and construction-progress review.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of transportation experience, with highway engineering experience preferred.
  • Professional Engineering license required.
  • Experience with MicroStation and OpenRoads.
  • Ability to manage technical tasks, deadlines, documentation, quality, and changing priorities.

  • Experience with NYSDOT design standards, roadway/drainage design, construction-phase support, and multidisciplinary transportation project coordination.
