Description
At 1898 & Co., a division of Burns & McDonnell, our Enterprise Systems Integration (ESI) team partners with clients to modernize and integrate critical Operational Technology (OT) systems across industrial, utility, and infrastructure environments. Our team delivers end-to-end solutions supporting resilient operations, secure architectures, complex networks, lifecycle modernization, and the convergence of OT and IT systems.
We are seeking a Project Manager who will lead complex OT-focused integration projects involving control systems, industrial networking, cybersecurity, and enterprise system connectivity. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, technical understanding of OT environments, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.
This role requires excellent communication, structured execution, and the ability to guide clients through digital modernization, system upgrades, and large-scale OT program implementation.
What You'll Do
Business Development
  • Identify and pursue new sales opportunities with clients to expand the ESI business line.
  • Lead proposal development and submission, including project estimation, planning, and scheduling.
  • Establish critical project objectives and key performance indicators with clients.
  • Lead contract preparation and negotiation in collaboration with internal teams and clients.
  • Develop and maintain long-term relationships with client stakeholders, acting as a trusted partner in their data and analytics journey.

Project Execution
  • Lead program estimation, planning, and budgeting activities, maintaining accountability for project execution and delivery.
  • Adopt, implement, and adjust leading project delivery methodologies, including both Waterfall and Agile approaches.
  • Manage full project lifecycles, ensuring alignment with client goals and adherence to schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Track and report overall project status, milestones, deliverables, and financial performance metrics.
  • Create and deliver detailed project status reports and lead regular stakeholder meetings covering schedule, risks, issues, budget, and resource allocation.
  • Supervise and coordinate all project resources, including internal 1898 & Co. teams, client personnel, and third-party vendors.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet quality standards and contractual obligations.
  • Support and oversee project deliverables assigned to both onshore and offshore teams, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of all deliverables to verify compliance with standards and best practices.
  • Ensure adherence to company safety policies and quality standards throughout all project activities.
  • Serve as the central point of contact for project interdependencies, ensuring seamless coordination between internal and external stakeholders.
  • Utilize project management experience to influence project execution processes and quality assurance/quality control protocols.

Leadership & Mentorship
  • Provide leadership and direction to multidisciplinary project teams, fostering collaboration and accountability.
  • Mentor and develop team members by sharing knowledge and best practices related to project management, analytics, and digital transformation.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, customer commitment, and continuous improvement within the ESI group.
  • Champion innovation in project delivery and encourage adoption of new tools and methodologies that enhance client outcomes.
  • Support staff development through coaching and professional growth opportunities.

Technical Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee the business process design phase to capture system requirements, including functional, technical, integration, and security needs.
  • Validate that system requirements align with business processes, project scope, and strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with staff managers to identify and develop training and performance support materials for project rollouts.
  • Lead requirements gathering and business process design for OT systems including control systems, SCADA, historians, OT networks, edge devices, asset management platforms, and enterprise-connected systems.
  • Ensure requirements cover functional, technical, cybersecurity, integration, network, and reliability needs.
  • Validate alignment between system requirements, business processes, operational constraints, and enterprise integration goals.
  • Coordinate development of training, documentation, and change-management materials supporting OT system rollouts.
  • Provide guidance on digital modernization involving control system upgrades, data acquisition strategies, telecom architectures, and secure network segmentation.
  • Ensure alignment with cybersecurity best practices and governance standards across all OT system work.

Preferred Experience and Skills
  • Understanding of complex OT systems and telecommunications used by power utilities
  • Understanding of technologies such as ADMS, DERMS, DCS, OMS, EMS, SCADA
  • Understanding of electric system operations for Distribution or Generation

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Computer Science, Information Technology or related degree from accredited program.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience providing Project or Program Management with at least 2 years focused on operational technology projects or programs including the ability to demonstrate having worked on multiple large projects or programs.
  • Previous large project or program leadership experience is preferable.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Experience with electric utility clients implementing and integrating operational systems such as OMS, DMS, ADMS, AMI, DERMS, IEC-61850, SCADA, Telecom FAN is preferred.
  • Professional certifications related to Program or Project management such as PMP or Agile SAFe are a plus.
  • Experience with a variety of project execution methodologies including but not limited to Waterfall and Agile.
  • Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
  • Must possess strong leadership skills, interpersonal skills, project management experience, and a strategic perspective.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Travel 30% of the time.
