Job description

Company Overview
P&E Constructors is an employee-owned (ESOP) mechanical and electrical construction firm executing large capital projects with deep roots in the industrial construction sector. Work Location & Travel Expectations
This role supports projects across the United States and requires a high level of travel based on business and project needs. Candidates may be based anywhere within the U.S.; however, the selected individual should be prepared for assignments at various project locations nationwide. Travel for this position may reach up to approximately 90%.
Project assignments generally last 10 to 17 months, depending on project duration and operational requirements. While assigned to a project away from home, eligible employees are provided per diem to assist with temporary living and travel-related expenses, in addition to a competitive base salary.
To support project deployment, mobilization assistance may be provided, which can include mileage reimbursement or other approved travel support. Employees may also receive extended weekend rotations approximately once per month, allowing additional time for travel home.
Depending on project requirements, eligible employees could be provided with either a company-issued vehicle and fuel card or a vehicle allowance to support travel needs.
Position Overview
The Electrical Project Director is responsible for the overall leadership, execution, and financial performance of large-scale industrial electrical construction projects. This role directs all phases of project delivery-preconstruction, planning, execution, commissioning support, and closeout-ensuring every project is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
The Electrical Project Director serves as the senior on-site leader and primary point of accountability for the project team, client relationships, and field operations. Directing project managers, superintendents, and craft leadership, the Director aligns resources, drives productivity, and upholds P&E Constructors' reputation for self-performed electrical excellence on heavy industrial job sites nationwide.
Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership and accountability for the safe, on-time, and on-budget execution of industrial electrical construction projects from award through final closeout
  • Direct all phases of project delivery, including preconstruction planning, procurement, scheduling, field execution, commissioning support, and closeout
  • Oversee electrical scopes of work including medium- and low-voltage power distribution, cable tray and raceway, conduit installation, wire and cable pulling, terminations, grounding, lighting, instrumentation, and controls
  • Develop, review, and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports; identify cost trends and implement corrective actions to protect project margins
  • Manage project schedules using Primavera P6, ensuring critical-path activities, resource loading, and milestones are maintained and clearly communicated
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, general contractors, engineers, and subcontractors, maintaining strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle
  • Lead change management, including the identification, pricing, documentation, and negotiation of change orders and claims
  • Administer prime contracts and subcontracts, including Time & Material (T&M) and Not-to-Exceed (NTE) structures, ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee material procurement, equipment logistics, and coordination with fabrication to support field installation sequencing
  • Champion the company's behavior-based safety (BBS) program and enforce a zero-incident safety culture across all job sites
  • Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC / NFPA 70), NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, and applicable local, state, and federal codes
  • Drive quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) programs, ensuring installations meet engineering specifications and client standards
  • Manage manpower planning and craft labor allocation in coordination with field superintendents and union halls
  • Monitor and report project performance to executive leadership, including safety, schedule, cost, productivity, and manpower metrics
  • Support estimating and business development efforts, including project pursuits, bid reviews, and client presentations
  • Lead and mentor project managers, superintendents, field engineers, and craft supervision, fostering professional growth and building bench strength for future projects
  • Lead multi-disciplinary project teams across geographically dispersed job sites, promoting collaboration, accountability, and alignment with company values
  • Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations for direct reports
  • Model and reinforce P&E Constructors' employee-ownership (ESOP) culture, safety commitment, and standards of excellence

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 10+ years of industrial electrical construction experience, with a proven track record on heavy industrial projects such as power generation, refineries, midstream, chemical, data centers, or manufacturing facilities
  • 5+ years in a Senior Project Manager or Project Director role, directly managing industrial electrical projects and multi-disciplinary field teams
  • Demonstrated experience managing large-scale industrial electrical projects in the $15MM-$150MM range
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC / NFPA 70), NFPA 70E, and OSHA safety standards
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6 scheduling and ERP systems (COINS preferred)
  • Strong analytical skills

  • Ability to travel up to approximately 90% and relocate to project sites nationwide for assignments generally lasting 10 to 17 months
