Job description

Summary:
The Project Controls Manager I drives successful project delivery, supporting solar, energy storage, wind, transmission, and distribution. This position collaborates closely with the Construction Project Management team to ensure that projects are delivered safely, on time, and budget. Areas of responsibility include cost control, cost reporting, forecasting, financial reporting, performance measurement, earned value analysis, contract management, subcontract compliance, invoice management, change management, and risk analysis.
This role will be hybrid requiring 3 days in office and 2 days working from home.
Requirements:
  • Manages the Cost Control Process:
    • Supports Estimating during budget setup, following standard WBS and cost code structure.
    • Develops and contains project cost reports.
    • Forecasts and analyzes trends, develops estimates to complete costs, and analyzes commitments.
    • Provides Cost Variance Analyses and variance to budget and the prior forecast.
    • Provides Earned Value Analysis by tracking progress and measuring performance.
    • Utilizes Cash Flow Models with cash flow analysis and preparation.
    • Supports Change Management by tracking and analyzing project changes to budget and scope, facilitating the change management process.
    • Supports Subcontractor Change Management ~ reviewing subcontractor changes and assessing the impact on the overall budget and forecast.
    • Provides Risk Analysis ~ assessing and evaluating project risk at the funding stage and throughout project execution, compiling data and risk analyses.
  • Administers contracts:
    • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of prime contracts and subcontracts and identifies all gaps, risks, opportunities, and deliverables.
    • Resolves issues with contracts and subcontracts.
    • Maintains a complete understanding of all contractual obligations and ensures executed agreements and contracts are in place.
    • Produces change orders and liaises with the counterpart in the client organization to ensure the client processes and approves change orders.
    • Reviews subcontractor progress and performance and supports payment applications.
  • Supports Project Manager with reporting process:
    • Collects data necessary for daily/weekly/monthly work completed.
    • Participates in daily and weekly status and progress reports of construction on site.
    • Creates the weekly and monthly Project Cost reports and presents them alongside the PM.
  • Understands the impacts of Scheduling on the cost control process:
    • Reviews and understands schedule as it ties to contractual milestone dates.
    • Assesses risks and makes recommendations for risk mitigation and contingency management.
    • Supports development and implementation of the project execution plan.
    • Operates Company aligned vehicle for site visits and business trips.
    • Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
    • Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures.

  • Presents, supports, and leads-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, engineering, construction management, accounting, or 5 years of related experience required.
  • 3 or more years of experience in Project Controls/Commercial Management/Project Management (construction environment a plus) required.
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 50% required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's license.
  • Understanding of Safety and OSHA requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and be proactive.
  • Strong or proficient understanding of cost and change management.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Intermediate experience with job costing or accounting software - knowledge of IFS, Procore, HeavyJob, and HeavyBid an advantage.
  • Intermediate experience with Primavera P6.
  • Functional competencies include accountability, attention to detail, prioritization, business acumen, and collaboration.
Anticipated base salary range: $105,000 - $132,000
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.
