What is a project contracts manager?

Project Contracts Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing and managing contracts throughout the lifecycle of a project. They ensure that all contractual obligations between clients, contractors, and suppliers are met, while mitigating risks and ensuring compliance with legal and company standards. Their duties often include drafting, negotiating, and administering contracts, as well as resolving disputes and monitoring contract performance. Project Contracts Managers play a critical role in ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with agreed-upon terms.

How does a project contracts manager typically collaborate with project teams and external stakeholders throughout a project's lifecycle?

A Project Contracts Manager works closely with project teams, legal counsel, procurement, and external stakeholders such as clients, vendors, and subcontractors. They are involved from the pre-award phase—helping to draft, negotiate, and finalize contracts—through to project execution, where they manage compliance, address disputes, and handle contract modifications. Effective communication and coordination are crucial, as the role often requires balancing the interests of multiple parties while ensuring contractual obligations are met. This collaboration helps mitigate risks and drive project success.
