Job description

Position Overview  

Align seeks an Entry Level Data Center Project Associate to support the delivery of large-scale data center white space fit-out projects, reporting to a Senior Project Manager.  

Align's Data Center Solutions focus on designing and installing the physical layer of the data center - HVAC; Power Distribution; Structured Low Voltage Cabling and Space Planning.  

The Project Associate will be a multi-talented, disciplined individual with an interest in understanding infrastructure and data center technologies. This is a hands-on, field-oriented role offering the opportunity to gain exposure to the full lifecycle of enterprise data center delivery: from planning and design through installation and build-out.  

Associates will be tasked with assisting in trade coordination installing equipment on data center projects, managing project plans, and maintaining documentation.  

Associates receive training, while being mentored by senior IT consultants and Project Managers. You will work closely with project managers, subcontractors, and field teams to support active construction and installation efforts. 

  • This is a full-time salaried position offering competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, paid time off, and paid training. 
  • This position is based in the Detroit metro area and will primarily support on-site work at active data center construction projects in Saline, MI. 
  • Consistent on-site presence is required, working closely with construction teams and subcontractors. Evening and weekend presence may be required depending on site activities. 
  • Travel up to ~50% may be required depending on project needs. 

The ideal candidate will have a combination of technical and soft skills, including the ability to think critically and possess a strong grasp of data analysis. Qualified candidates must be detail-oriented with excellent communication and writing skills. This person must be organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.  

Responsibilities 

  • Provide on-site project execution support for Align clients with data center construction, installation, and build-out activities as directed by the assigned the Data Center Solutions Director and Project Manager  
  • Participate in various construction and project management activities including site surveys, needs assessments, preparation of documentation, scheduling vendor installations, data analysis and coordination of various project deliverables  
  • Participate in on-site data center review and evaluation projects  
  • Contribute to the RFP process, project planning, current-state vs. target-state assessments and client presentations  
  • Participate in the design of electrical distribution systems for data center equipment  
  • Support the installation of electrical distribution and low-voltage cabling systems in data center build outs  
  • Develop data center white space blueprints for power distribution, cabinet spatial layouts, and hot and cold-aisle containment solutions  
  • Create visuals of data center cabinet elevations, network diagrams and floor-plans using graphics programs, such as Excel and Bluebeam  
  • Assist in subcontractor coordination and support bidding processes, including development of scopes of work and bills of materials 
  • Assist with client billing  
  • Assist with the administration of projects including making updates to budget and project plans, creating project documentation, etc.  
  • Participate in the installation of equipment within data center and co-location facilities  
  • Assist with troubleshooting technical issues that arise during data center installation and build-out  
  • Become knowledgeable of company standards and procedures  
  • Learn the Align toolset including Asset Point, CAD, CFD, etc.
