Job Summary

  • Our estimators assist with the preparation and planning required for projects of all sizes. They collect and analyze data to estimate the time, money, materials, and labor required to manufacture a product, construct a building, or provide a service. They also appropriately adjust estimates to capture cost due to time constraints, overtime, location, and risk. They audit unawarded estimates to check price points and verify accurate reflection of work achieved.


General Accountabilities

  • Assembles precise and properly arranged estimates and proposals in a well-timed manner for stipulated price, design-build, and construction/project management formatted projects to be delivered and reviewed internally and externally
  • Understands and is capable of reading architecture drawings and blueprints
  • Accurately reflects required materials within appropriate variances
  • Develops schedules and understands tender price of company and industry for bidding and estimation process
  • Understands how commercial construction flows and operates with requirements of sub-contractors and vendors
  • Capable of producing estimates in a clear and concise manner
  • Utilizes strong investigative skills for thorough understanding of project requirements
  • Regularly updates material and labor costing database for accurate price reflection
  • Prepares and maintains a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Arranges sub-contractors' quotations to ensure the quotes satisfy the job requirements
  • Travels to job sites, warehouses, and other venues to gather information on materials needed and labor required
  • Prepares cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project
  • Creates and cultivates working relationships with sub-contractors and vendors
  • Analyzes specifications and technical documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates
  • Recommends ways to make a product more cost effective or profitable

Job Qualifications

  • · Education: Associate’s degree preferred
  • · Experience: At least 2 years of experience as a cost estimator for a construction firm or like-kind building/trade specialty experience in Roofing, Environmental/asbestos, Water remediation, Plumbing, Electrical, Interior / exterior renovations, Parking lot asphalt and concrete, ADA, Storm sewer and drains, General site work
  • · Must have advanced knowledge of preparation of job estimates for construction projects and a strong knowledge of how commercial construction operates
  • · Must have a valid driver’s license in state you will work with good driving record
  • · Direct experience in one of the following areas preferred:
  • · Must be 18 years or older at the time of application
  • · Able to provide proof of US Person status (permanent resident or citizen


Physical Requirements

  • Office Environment – indoor with low to moderate noise
  • Read blueprints and reduced size black and white drawings, spec sheets, reports, schedules on computer screens or hard print
  • May need to visit off-site locations to observe manufacture of materials, off-site may be outdoor and in various conditions of environment
