Job Description
Position Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Accountant to join its growing finance team. This role will focus heavily on project accounting, government contracting, and Deltek Costpoint administration. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting contract setup, project billing, budget monitoring, and financial reporting within a government contracting environment.
This position requires a detail-oriented professional who understands how project accounting impacts contract performance, compliance, billing accuracy, and overall financial management. The Accountant will work closely with finance leadership, project managers, and operations teams to ensure projects are properly established, maintained, and billed according to contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Project Accounting
  • Establish and maintain projects in Deltek Costpoint, ensuring accurate setup of contract terms, billing structures, funding, and project details.
  • Create and maintain project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and project coding.
  • Assign and update project charge codes and employee labor allocations.
  • Process project and labor reclassifications as needed.
  • Monitor project budgets, expenditures, funding limitations, and contract performance.
  • Support project managers with budget-to-actual reporting and financial analysis.
Billing & Contract Administration
  • Prepare and review customer invoices in accordance with contract terms.
  • Support billing for Time & Materials (T&M), Cost Plus, and Fixed Price contracts.
  • Monitor funding ceilings and contract modifications.
  • Ensure compliance with customer contract requirements and billing guidelines.
  • Research and resolve billing discrepancies and contract-related accounting issues.
Accounting Operations
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and project documentation.
  • Support audits and provide financial documentation as requested.
  • Assist with revenue recognition and project financial reporting.
Compliance & Reporting
  • Ensure compliance with government contracting regulations and internal accounting policies.
  • Support financial reporting requirements related to contract and project performance.
  • Assist in maintaining Costpoint data integrity and accounting controls.
  • Generate financial reports and analyses for leadership and project stakeholders.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 4+ years of accounting experience.
  • Experience using Deltek Costpoint.
  • Experience with project accounting and contract billing.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred
  • Government contracting experience.
  • Experience supporting DCAA-compliant environments.
  • Experience with project setup, funding modifications, and contract billing.
  • Knowledge of Time & Materials, Cost Plus, and Fixed Price contracts.
