Job description

PCU RN Opportunity

The PCU RN provides comprehensive care to patients who are too stable for the ICU but require more intensive nursing care than a general medical-surgical floor. You will monitor vital signs and telemetry, manage complex medication regimens, and perform quick interventions to prevent deterioration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Assessment & Monitoring: Perform detailed, regular assessments of acutely ill patients and interpret specialized telemetry and diagnostic equipment data.
  • Clinical Interventions: Initiate life-saving interventions, manage cardiac drips, and titrate medication doses.
  • Care Planning: Develop, implement, and update nursing care plans in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment, adhering to all hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Communication & Education: Provide education to patients and families regarding disease management and post-operative recovery.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred).
  • Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia.
  • Experience: Minimum 1-2 years of experience in acute care, preferably in PCU or ICU.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN).
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Skills
  • Strong critical thinking and rapid response skills.
  • Proficiency in interpreting cardiac rhythms (telemetry).
