Job description

Title: Roll-Out Technician

Duration: 6 Months

Location: Urbandale, IA

JOB DESCRIPTION

The RollOut Technician is a lifecycle and deployment execution role responsible for delivering standardized endpoint replacements, new hardware deployments, and project‑based builds across the organization. This role is foundational to Desktop Support and directly enables refresh velocity, operational readiness, and support stability.

The focus of this role is accuracy, consistency, and throughput at scale, not deep troubleshooting or improvisational support. Roll‑Out Technicians operate within clearly defined standards and are expected to escalate early when work falls outside documented scope.

Strong Roll‑Out Technicians form the pipeline for future Level 1 support staff by building discipline, execution maturity, and environmental awareness.

Primary Responsibilities

Endpoint Lifecycle Execution

  • Perform large‑scale PC lifecycle replacements
  • Execute device swaps with minimal business disruption
  • Ensure assets are correctly tracked, tagged, and assigned
  • Remove and retire decommissioned equipment properly

New Hardware Setup & Deployment

  • Build and configure desktops, laptops, docks, monitors, and peripherals
  • Execute imaging and configuration using approved job aids and tooling
  • Validate hardware and configuration before user handoff

ProjectBased Deployment Work

  • Support scheduled deployment efforts such as:
    • PC refresh programs
    • Intern onboarding
    • New corporate or operational initiatives
    • Office expansions or moves
  • Work as part of a coordinated deployment team with defined timelines

Standard BreakFix (Limited Scope)

  • Perform basic, documented hardware replacement during deployment
  • Identify failures that require escalation rather than deeper troubleshooting
  • Avoid undocumented or non‑standard fixes

Documentation & Escalation

  • Maintain accurate ticket and asset records
  • Escalate imaging, hardware, or standards issues early and with context
  • Flag recurring issues or process gaps encountered during rollout work

Hiring Criteria (What We Select For)

Roll‑Out Technicians are hired for execution reliability, not certification depth.

Requirements

Requirements

  • Proven ability to follow structured technical procedures precisely
  • Comfort performing repetitive, hands‑on technical work at volume
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with physical hardware
  • Demonstrated reliability in project‑based or deadline‑driven environments
  • Ability to work independently within defined scope once trained
  • Professional communication during device handoff and deployment

Explicit NonRequirements

  • Industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+)
  • Advanced OS, network, or application troubleshooting experience
  • Prior Tier 2 or escalation responsibilities
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills are intentionally developed after lifecycle mastery at Level 1 and Level 2.
