What You'll Do 

The role of the Studies Engineer is to be part of a multidisciplinary engineering team to help deliver Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables projects to a successful completion.  Under supervision of a principal engineer and discipline lead, the studies engineer will support a team of engineers, designers and project managers to develop/design/execute and support Rising Edge projects through clear strategy and a proactive commitment.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:  

  • Apply Rising Edge Group's safety values and culture, fostering a safe and positive work environment.
    Consistently representing the company in a professional and diligent manner.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationship with internal and external stakeholders, design team, authorities, utilities, and associated organizations.
  • Maintaining and improving existing engineering processes
  • Create, review, understand engineering documents. (i.e. design base memorandum, detailed engineering scope, engineering and construction work plans)
  • Seek, complete and record evidence of, continuing professional development (CPD) in accordance with the requirements of the relevant professional Institution
  • To contribute and assist, as required by the Projects Engineering Lead, Discipline Lead, or Principal Engineer
  • To have thorough knowledge of and compliance with Rising Edge Group procedures and standards
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to the design team through project execution and QAQC reviews.
  • Create detailed technical calculations, models, design studies and technical reports to meet client(s) requirements, using ETAP, CDEGS, XGSLab, CYMCAP, PSCAD or other software
  • Complete detailed reviews of electrical studies completed internally, and completing QA reviews of studies completed by subcontractors
  • Support the discipline lead and principal engineer in reviewing bid documents, proposals and studies estimates
  • Assist in the specification of major equipment ratings
  • Assist in the development of internal calculation tools, processes, and general training
  • Apply and maintain knowledge of relevant and new legislations, standards, regulations, guides and best practise to projects
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, assistance and feedback to the design team

Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering degree required
  • P.ENG Registered with APEGA (or other provincial association)
  • 4+ years of studies experience in the Utilities industry 
  • Proficient in short circuit, load flow, reactive compensation, grounding, arc flash, collector system ampacity studies in transmission, power generation and renewables projects
  • Experience in industrial studies (harmonics, protection coordination, motor starting), and EMT transient studies is an asset but not required
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant legislations, standards, regulations, guides and best practice (CSA, ANSI, IEC and IEEE standards.)
  • Proficient ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
  • Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated problem solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines
  • Navigate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks
  • Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written (reporting, graphical) communication skills with ability to work in a team environment, positively influence others, and develop strong internal and external relationships.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic changing environment with multiple, occasionally conflicting, priorities.
