The Role
ย 
Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC) is seeking a Water Exercise Supervisorย to join our dynamic Aquatics Department. This role is ideal for a passionate aquatic fitness professional who enjoys leading people, growing programs, and delivering an outstanding member experience in a premium club environment.
The Water Exercise Supervisor oversees the operation, safety, and continued growth of MACโ€™s water exercise and aquatic personal training programs. This individual actively supports and supervises water fitness instructors, ensures program quality, and serves as a knowledgeable, welcoming resource for members interested in aquatic fitness classes, private training, and special events.
This is a part-time, hourly positionย combining administrative leadership responsibilities with hands-on instruction.
Time Commitment
  • Approximately 12โ€“15 administrative hours per week
  • Teaching ~6 water fitness classes per week
  • Optional private lessons: up to 10 additional hours per week
Schedule & Work Environment
  • Must be available for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidaysย as needed
  • Work is primarily performed in a pool environment, including exposure to humidity, chemicals, and wet surfaces
  • Requires regular standing, walking, bending, and movement on pool decks
  • Must maintain the physical ability to demonstrate aquatic exercises and ensure participant safety

What Youโ€™ll Do
  • Supervise and support water exercise programming to ensure safe, high-quality instruction
  • Actively oversee aquatic fitness classes and personal training sessions to promote member safety, engagement, and satisfaction
  • Coordinate and manage the water exercise class schedule, including instructor staffing and coverage
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluateย water fitness instructors
  • Plan and implement aquatic fitness events, workshops, and special programming
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for member questions, feedback, and concerns, ensuring timely and professional resolution
  • Communicate class schedules, updates, and new offerings to members and staff
  • Represent aquatic fitness in departmental and club committee meetings
  • Support payroll processes and monitor instructor hours and program expenses within budget guidelines
  • Develop and maintain innovative, relevant, and engaging aquatic programming
  • Promote aquatic personal training services and conduct private lessons as scheduled
  • Uphold all Club safety policies and procedures, identifying and reporting unsafe conditions or incidents
  • Promote MACโ€™s mission, values, and code of conductย while delivering exceptional member service
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance

What Youโ€™ll Bring
  • High school diploma required; college degree in Exercise Physiology, Recreation, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of two yearsย of water fitness instruction experience
  • Minimum of two yearsย of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Current nationally recognized water fitness certificationย (e.g., AEA or equivalent)
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications, or ability to obtain within one month of hire
  • Strong leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to motivate, mentor, and develop staff while fostering a positive team culture
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members, guests, and colleagues
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
