Civil Engineering Intern | Missoula, MT

Thispostingis for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities.

IMEG is hiring a Civil Engineering Intern in Missoula, MT. Over 10-12 weeks, you willassistwith engineering analysis, design, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, and site drainage and grading work while learning the Civil Engineering trade.

This mentored internship offers hands-on project experience while supporting work within project budgets and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. You will also support documentation, coordination, and field observation efforts that contribute to resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure.

What You'll Do

  • Assistwith design portions of civil projectsin accordance withcode and IMEG standards

  • Research commercially available equipment and project resources

  • Support client relations,maintainthe project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files

  • Coordinate design and schedule needs with other disciplines, including architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers

  • Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions whilemonitoringproject design progress

  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before requesting a final check

  • Help prepare and issue addendum information

  • Conduct periodic job site observations and perform other services required by the contract services agreement

Education

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required

Required Skills/Abilities

  • May berequiredtoassistwith field duties such as surveying and materials testing

  • Strong interest in design consulting

  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CADsoftwareand BIM

  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds

  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull

  • Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises
