Position Overview

As the Director of Engineering, you will lead a high-performing global team of software engineers and engineering managers responsible for the S365 and SmartShopper applications. Reporting to the Senior Director of Product Engineering, you will play a key role in delivering scalable, high-quality solutions that power provider search, rate calculation, and member rewards.
You will oversee application engineering teams, partnering closely with Product to execute against a product-led modernization strategy. This role emphasizes strong execution, people leadership, and technical stewardship to enhance client and member experiences.

What You'll Do:

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive engineering culture that values diverse perspectives and continuous learning
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to managers and senior engineers, strengthening leadership depth and team effectiveness
  • Support organizational priorities through thoughtful talent planning, development, and retention strategies
  • Partner with leadership to reinforce a culture of accountability, transparency, and engagement


Engineering Strategy and Execution:

  • Translate enterprise and product strategy into clear engineering priorities, roadmaps, and deliverables
  • Partner closely with Product and Architecture to deliver scalable, customer-centric solutions
  • Drive adoption of modern engineering practices and technologies to improve speed, quality, and reliability
  • Ensure strong alignment across platform and service teams to deliver cohesive, integrated capabilities

Operational Excellence

  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, processes, and metrics to drive consistent, high-quality delivery
  • Optimize team performance through data-driven insights, continuous improvement, and effective resource allocation
  • Promote cross-functional collaboration to ensure seamless execution across Technology, Product, and business partners
  • Support operational rigor across global teams, ensuring effective delivery across time zones

What You'll Bring to Zelis:

  • 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering, with 5+ years leading teams
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • Strong familiarity with technologies aligned to our stack (e.g., Ruby on Rails, C#, Angular, JavaScript, AWS, caching and persistence technologies)
  • Proven experience leading distributed teams and delivering complex, scalable systems
  • Demonstrated ability to drive execution of technical initiatives and support organizational change
  • Demonstrated understanding of cloud utilization and total cost of tech ownership
  • Proven track record with legacy app modernization and performance optimization

Location and Workplace Flexibility

Zelis is headquartered in the U.S., with multiple locations across the country and in Hyderabad, India. Check out our locations to learn more about our offices. All employee work locations are based on the needs of the position and are determined by the Leadership team. In-office work and activities vary based on work and team objectives in accordance with Company policies.


While location expectations vary by role, candidates within approximately 50 miles of a U.S. office are generally preferred to support collaboration when needed. Our hybrid approach is flexible, and in-office presence is guided by team and business needs rather than a fixed weekly schedule.

Base Salary Range

$169,000.00 - $213,750.00

At Zelis we are committed to providing fair and equitable compensation packages. The base salary range allows us to make an offer that considers multiple individualized factors, including experience, education, qualifications, as well as job-related and industry-related knowledge and skills, etc. Base pay is just one part of our Total Rewards package, which may also include discretionary bonus plans, commissions, or other incentives depending on the role.
