Programming Coding Internship Online information

What are some common challenges faced during an online programming coding internship, and how can I overcome them?

One common challenge in an online programming coding internship is effective communication, as you may not have face-to-face interactions with mentors or teammates. Staying proactive by regularly checking in through chat or video calls and clearly documenting your work can help bridge this gap. Another challenge is managing your time and staying motivated without a traditional office environment. Setting a consistent schedule, breaking tasks into manageable steps, and seeking feedback frequently will help you stay on track and make the most of your remote internship experience.

What is a Programming Coding Internship Online?

A Programming Coding Internship Online is a temporary, remote position where students or aspiring programmers gain hands-on experience by working on software development projects over the internet. Interns typically learn coding languages, work on real-world assignments, and collaborate with teams using digital tools. These internships offer flexibility and allow participants to build their technical skills, network with professionals, and enhance their resumes from anywhere. Online coding internships can be paid or unpaid and may lead to future job opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Programming Coding Intern Online, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Programming Coding Intern Online, you need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, familiarity with at least one major programming language, and current enrollment in or completion of a relevant degree program. Experience with version control systems like Git, exposure to coding platforms such as GitHub, and knowledge of collaborative development tools are typically expected. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and self-motivation are standout soft skills for remote collaboration and learning. These skills ensure you can contribute to real-world projects, adapt to team workflows, and maximize your professional growth in a virtual environment.

Job description

Join Amrize as a Engineering/Quality Manager and help construct what's next. If you're ready to put your skills to work on projects that matter - and build a career with a company that's building North America - we want to hear from you!

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Engineering & Quality Manager is responsible for leading all engineering, design, and quality control functions for Southern Alberta's Precast Division. This role oversees structural design, concrete mix design coordination, drafting, quality assurance, and mentorship of engineering staff. The position plays a critical role across the full project lifecycle-supporting estimating and preconstruction, delivering safe and efficient designs, ensuring production and erection quality, and driving continuous improvement in precast systems and plant operations. The role also serves as a key technical liaison with project managers, clients, consultants, and industry bodies.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Provide structural design for precast concrete structures and components, including concrete and steel connection design in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Review, approve, and issue construction drawings; manage internal and external drafting resources, workflows, and the AutoCAD drawing database for standard and specialty products.
  • Develop project-specific designs to support competitive bid strategies and provide technical input for estimating, sales, and preconstruction activities.
  • Coordinate with external structural engineering firms for specialty products or complex designs and collaborate with architects, engineers, and consultants on precast technical solutions.
  • Manage all aspects of the Quality Control Program, including enforcement of quality policies, regulatory requirements, inspections, and calibration/certification of testing and lifting equipment.
  • Update welding procedures and maintain welder qualifications in accordance with the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB); identify and implement value-engineering and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Provide plant and site engineering support, including facility modifications, equipment selection, lifting devices, safe work load evaluations, and review of erection plans (crane sizing, bracing, sequencing).
  • Support production and erection teams with technical problem-solving; assist with technical and operational issues related to product development, production, and marketing.
  • Provide engineering leadership through mentoring and development of junior staff, delivery of precast design training, coordination across project teams, client engagement, and industry representation.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor's Degree.
Field of Study Preferred: Civil or Structural Engineering.
Required Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of precast concrete design experience.
Required Training/Certifications: Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for registration with APEGA.
Required Technical Skills: MS Office, BIM Software (e.g. Revit, Tekla).
Travel Requirements: 0-10%

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience in quality control, plant operations, and construction support preferred.
  • Eligibility for registration in British Columbia and Saskatchewan considered an asset.
  • 3D modeling experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and solve complex technical problems.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Flexible Health & Dental benefits coverage for you and your dependents.
  • A generous Pension Plan designed to support you through various stages of your career and life.
  • Access to voluntary programs like RRSP and TFSA for future financial planning.
  • Healthy Living support through an Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP), offering confidential assistance for work, health, or life challenges.
  • Easy access to mental health and well-being support.
  • Service recognition awards to celebrate your contributions.
  • Perks & discounts on a variety of products and services.
  • Access to online learning platforms, financial educational assistance, and a culture that fosters career growth and opportunities.
  • Financial support for new parents beyond statutory benefits.
  • An inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone can be themselves.
  • A collaborative work culture in a supportive and team-oriented work environment.
  • Company-provided personal protective equipment ensuring your safety and comfort on the job where applicable.

As part of our dedicated focus on the health and safety of all employees, a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing and a criminal record check, may be required.
