Senior-level individual contributor responsible for designing, configuring, integrating, developing, and supporting complex Guidewire Cloud applications. Leads Guidewire solution design, configurations, and integrations using Cloud APIs, REST services, microservices, and vendor platforms while partnering with business, IT, architecture, and delivery teams. Provides technical guidance, mentors developers, supports production stability, and leverages Agile practices and AI-assisted engineering tools to improve delivery speed, quality, and business value.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
  • Serves as the lead designer for major, and highly complex systems and subsystems, applying deep knowledge of available technologies, tools, and existing designs. Leads the configuration and integration of vendor applications and consulting resources with CNA applications and resources.
  • Provides advanced technical consultation to business and IT leaders across complex application development and support, including performance engineering, testing, production implementation, recovery, maintenance, stability, defect resolution, and SLA compliance.
  • Acts as expert technical resource to develop and mentor staff in all phases of the development and implementation process. Participates in instructing, directing, and checking the design or applications work of others.
  • Acts as liaison between clients, vendors, consulting resources, and applications area. Analyzes problems regarding detailed requirements and capabilities and works cross organizationally to resolve issues and solve problems.
  • Researches and evaluates new and/or alternative solutions and recommends the most efficient and cost-effective application programming solution consistent with strategic direction. Also anticipates changes to determine development tools, processes and implements those decisions.
  • Assists with the identification and selection of information technologies, vendors, and/or consulting resources which assist the functional business units in meeting their strategic objectives.
  • Works closely with other IT areas to contribute to the overall strategic direction of the applications portfolio. Includes partnering with Architecture to assist with the overall technology direction of CNA.
  • May code new or modified programs, reuse existing code through the use of program development software alternatives and/or integrate purchased solutions.
  • In conjunction with operations area technical staff, supports the implementation of the application into production and testing environments. May confer with technical personnel to identify and resolve issues.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Solid technical knowledge of high-level programming languages, databases, interfaces, and familiarity with application program development alternatives.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with peers, IT Management and staff, and internal/external business partners/clients.
  • Experience with Guidewire Cloud platform implementations is REQUIRED.
  • Experience and knowledge with Guidewire Cloud Platform implementation is a plus. Strong experience configuring Guidewire Policy Center using Gosu, PCF, Data Model, Rules, and APD.
  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing Guidewire integrations using Cloud APIs, REST APIs, Integration Gateway, App Events, Kafka, and microservices architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of Java/Spring Boot, API-driven development, event-driven architectures, and Guidewire Cloud integration patterns.
  • Good understanding of Insurance functions and processes, both within the organization and across the industry, preferably commercial/specialty lines of insurance industry.
  • Experience using Generative AI tools such as Copilot, Claude Code, and AI coding assistants to accelerate configuration development, code generation, reviews, unit test creation, and defect resolution is plus.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office suite and other business-related software systems or languages including J2EE technologies, Micro services etc.
  • Knowledge of Guidewire Dev/Ops and testing framework is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Google Cloud technologies is plus.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with Agile system development life cycle required. Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and product-based software delivery preferred.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of systems analysis and application program development experience, of which 4 years of Guidewire implementation experience is must.
  • Previous experience in working with distributed teams including internal and external vendors.
  • Guidewire Policy Center Ace or Guidewire Cloud Integration Ace certification is a plus.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $72,000 to $141,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
