Job description

As an Assistant Civil/Traffic Engineer in our Dallas traffic group, you will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer (PE) and Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) to assist multidisciplinary project teams to create world class designs for public and private clients on a variety of transportation and development projects.   

Our traffic engineers assist our transportation teams through each phase of the project development lifecycle (Feasibility, Schematic & Environmental, Design, and Construction). Projects range in type and scale from City/County arterial studies, innovative intersection designs and traffic impact assessments to billion-dollar multi-level freeway designs, intelligent transportation system architecture, and traffic management planning.

What you'll do:

  • Work with a close-knit team of multi-disciplinary professionals to ensure project success.

  • Develop skills in software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, HCS, Synchro, PTV Vissim, & OpenRoads.

  • Assist in the design of traffic control infrastructure (such as signing, striping, lighting, traffic signal, and Intelligent Transportation System plans).

  • Assist in developing traffic operations and safety studies, microsimulation traffic models, traffic impact analyses, and highway capacity analyses.

  • Assist in developing traffic phasing for traffic control plans.

  • Assist in the civil design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.

  • Assist with modifying and reviewing production drawings for a variety of transportation projects.

  • Assist in designing civil components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.

  • Apply basic knowledge of commonly used civil engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the civil engineering services industry.

  • Assist with research and compiles project-related data as required by the project managers. Assists with compiling studies and reports.

  • Assist with correcting and updating drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.

  • Assist with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.

  • Assist in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Comply with all policies and standards.

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program required or; 
  • Bachelor Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam required. 
  • Master's degree in transportation or traffic engineering preferred. 
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred. 
  • Basic knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Basic computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, HCS, Synchro, PTV Vissim), and civil analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Engineers in Training-EIT Certification strongly preferred. 
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
