M&J is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE) to support the Resident Engineer by supervising daily inspection coverage and contract documentation, assisting with pay estimates/change orders/submittals, and ensuring District Department of Transportation (DDOT) construction work remains compliant, safe, and on schedule.
Responsibilities
• Assist the Resident Engineer with management and coordination of daily construction inspection activities.
• Supervise field inspection personnel and coordinate inspection coverage for contractor operations.
• Monitor contractor operations and construction progress to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
• Review Daily Inspection Reports (DIRs) and quantity documentation prepared by inspectors.
• Assist with preparation and review of progress payment estimates, change orders, and contract modifications.
• Assist with review of contractor submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs.
• Coordinate maintenance of traffic operations and work zone safety compliance.
• Monitor compliance with stormwater permits, erosion and sediment control plans, and environmental regulations.
• Assist with coordination of utilities and public space requirements within the District.
• Act on behalf of the Resident Engineer when delegated.
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Minimum 8-12 years of transportation construction experience.
Preferred
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.
• NICET Level III or IV - Transportation Construction Inspection.
• Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Training.
• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I.
• District Erosion and Sediment Control Certification.
