Job description

Senior Application Architect

Location: Fort Belvoir, VA (on-site/hybrid)

Employment Type: Full-time

Clearance: Active DoD Top Secret clearance required to start; must be eligible for SCI access


We are seeking a Senior Application Architect to join our team of committed technical professionals to lead design efforts for a complex DoD mission-critical enterprise application at Fort Belvoir, VA. You will work with a high-achieving team to design and deliver high-quality technical solutions. You will be responsible for maintaining functional and technical knowledge of mission systems for the organization, with a focus on leveraging technology to support business needs. You will identify technical issues and opportunities for efficiency and provide technical insights through system design and configuration perspectives. This role is both challenging and rewarding.

How You Will Make a Difference

  • Provide application design leadership by gathering and analyzing application requirements and designing application solutions that meet prioritized business requirements.
  • Incorporate new capabilities and modify existing software to support existing and new interfaces in accordance with the Software Development Plan.
  • Document proposed strategies and business cases, identifying and evaluating anticipated risks.
  • Identify alternative business cases and perform analysis of alternatives to recommend the best alternative for implementation.
  • Plan and lead sessions with users to examine current business process goals, objectives, structures, workflows, systems, and roles for the purpose of executing a ground-up redesign of business practices, if required, to achieve functional process streamlining and improvement, requirements determination and identification, and long-term, full-scale integration for software implementation.
  • Plan and lead meetings with users to demonstrate that the design meets all established requirements with acceptable risk and within schedule constraints, establishing the basis for proceeding with detailed design.
  • Provide engineering and technical interoperability analysis of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) test system capabilities and performance.
  • Provide detailed database designs, including but not limited to data and process models, program specifications, control specifications, physical structure charts, module definitions, compile or build units, and data usage definitions.
  • Provide technical support in the delivery and installation of new software versions associated with mission application requirements.
  • Identify ways to streamline and integrate activities to achieve short- and long-term improvements to mission tracking and management systems.
  • Perform upgrades and enhancements to meet user and program needs, policy changes, or hardware/software considerations.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years developing object-oriented C# and Java web applications, with an understanding of application development best practices including setup, configuration, and hardening.
  • 7+ years of front-end web development experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX).
  • 7+ years of MS SQL and Oracle development experience, including queries, stored procedures, triggers, tuning, and database design. Comfortable using source control (SVN or Git).
  • Quick learner able to dig into legacy code, understand how it currently works, identify possible solutions, and discuss options with the client as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to create software that is intuitive and easy to use.
  • Ability to work with the client to review business requirements and solutions.
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance; eligible for SCI access.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II certification within 6 months of contract start.
