Schnabel is seeking an entry level Civil Engineer with expertise and practical experience in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology to support our growing Seattle/Portland offices. We are looking for experienced, motivated candidates with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong multi-disciplinary team.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Perform geotechnical analyses for foundations, retaining walls and shoring systems, slope stability and pavement design in support of dams, transportation, and tunneling projects.
  • Prepare reports that clearly document, support and communicate all aspects of work completed.
  • Logging of test borings and test pits.
  • Observe geotechnical-related construction and prepare daily observation reports.
  • Preparation of design calculations and drawings (sketches) using AutoCAD and MicroStation and providing design support during construction. 
  • Support the preparation of proposals.

Required Skills/Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or Engineering Geology)
  • 0-2 years of professional experience
  • EIT certification or the ability to get one within 1 year of hire
  • Effective time management, written communication skills, analytical skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to efficiently balance multiple concurrent tasks, responsibilities, and commitments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
  • Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last several days to months away from the office 
  • Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside

Preferred Skills/Experience: 

  • Master’s degree in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, or a related field
  • Prior internship or professional work in a related field (i.e. geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, etc.)

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license as driving is an essential function of the job

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening 

The compensation range for this position is between $57,200 to $86,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.Â
