Position Overview:
Responsible overseeing the maintenance, upkeep, and proper operation of both 5 axis milling machines and all mill room tools and equipment. Utilizes knowledge and experience in mill operations to lead quality improvement projects, research material and tool upgrades, and document procedures.

Essential Functions:
  • Communicates daily with mill supervisor and floor technicians to guide set up and monitor progress of all new projects.
  • Provides skid sizes for parts to be milled, while effectively communicating with suppliers and customers.
  • Takes basic CAD model and models skirt to make model mill ready.
  • Assesses master material thickness and machine capabilities to determine proper milling machine tool selections and proper feeds and speeds.
  • Writes planner mill tool paths for foam stack up.
  • Analyzes part geometry and clearances in order to write 3 and 5 axis tool paths for efficient undercutting and finish cutting of parts.
  • Assists supervisor in sequencing all mill room operations in order to meet schedules and budgets.
  • Utilizes and maintains machine tool simulation software.
  • Operates and troubleshoots Par XR 225 5-axis gantry mill and PAR controller.
  • Operates and troubleshoots CMS 5-axis gantry mill and FANUC controller.
  • Performs mill alignment procedures for Par and CMS 5-axis gantry mills.
  • Maintains and retrieves CAD files in the Teamcenter environment.
  • Must follow proper procedures in the safe handling of hazardous wastes, which may be generated during the manufacturing process.
  • Provides the technical expertise required to properly operate and upkeep the PAR and CMS milling machines.
  • Resolves milling machine issues (mechanical, electrical, processor, or software related) by applying past experience or by contacting manufacturer's service department.
  • Ensures routine preventative maintenance is performed on milling machines and all other mill room equipment (spray, chop, and glue equipment).
  • Assists and improves the cross-training initiative by teaching and mentoring mill technicians on processes, maintenance, computer, and machine operation.
  • Leads mill efforts in optimizing master quality by researching new materials, evaluating different tools, and documenting best practices.
  • Proposes, develops, and implements process improvements in order to meet department safety, quality, schedule, and budget goals.
  • Acts as a liaison between the mill, product tooling, and material science when testing new master construction methodologies.
  • Assists in mill schedule planning, mill package configuration, and schedule change/ forecast updates.
  • Assists with documentation of supplies, S&E, labor, and material tracking.
  • Takes basic CAD model and models skirt to make model mill ready.
  • Assesses master material thickness and machine capabilities to determine proper milling machine tool selections and proper feeds and speeds.

  • Promotes safe work habits and maintains a clean work area by promoting 5s initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree in Graphic Engineering with CAD certificate and experience and/or training in drafting or technical illustration preferred
  • Marine Industry highly recommended.
  • Should be proficient in Unigraphics manufacturing software, Unigraphics Machine tool builder, Machine tool simulation, or Post Builder.
  • Must have good Unigraphics, freeform and feature modeling skills.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.

The anticipated pay range for this position is $47,000-$70,000.
The actual base pay offered will vary based on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidate's qualifications and the business context.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
