Job description

PLC Programmer

Position Overview

The PLC Programmer will work with our industrial team and is responsible for developing detailed electrical and control designs, PLC programming, commissioning, and technical support for client projects. The successful candidate must have a solid understanding of programming, automation, and controls principles. This position reports to the Electrical Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a high level of customer service, responding to customer needs and working to satisfy customer expectations.
  • Develop detailed electrical and control drawings for industrial systems, including PLC logic, HMI design, electrical schematics, network diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
  • Handle PLC programming and troubleshooting for control systems, including designing and implementing new PLC code and modifying and troubleshooting existing programs.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to resolve technical issues that arise during various stages of projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to clients on the installation, setup, and operation of control system components.
  • Develop testing and quality assurance plans for control systems to ensure proper functionality.
  • Ensure timely project completion and provide regular progress updates to team members.
  • Participate in continuous learning and development to stay current on industry trends and best practices.
  • Travel to customer sites as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering (or related field), OR a minimum of 3 years of experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting for industrial applications.
  • Good knowledge of automation and control principles, including PLC programming, HMI design, and SCADA systems.
  • Proven experience with STEP 7, TIA Portal, and other relevant software applications.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week on a regular basis; availability for additional hours as needed for rush jobs.
  • Proficient computer skills for communication, research, and work orders.
  • Ability to work in industrial environments, including temperature extremes, on a regular basis.
  • Must possess tools necessary to accomplish job duties.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an insurable driving record. Must be 21 or older to drive on behalf of Brandon and Clark.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift heavy components (up to 50 lbs.) occasionally.
  • Ability to stand, crouch, or kneel for extended periods.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Occasional travel required.

Work Environment

This role involves working in an industrial/motor shop environment with exposure to mechanical, electrical, and environmental hazards, as well as varying temperatures. Travel to customer sites will be required on an occasional basis, which may include out-of-town and overnight assignments, evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations.
