Position: 2015-13582 - Developer - Programmer

Position Description:
This program provides enterprise applications and services for high value text extraction and analytics against large volumes of unstructured and semi-structured data in response to strategic mission requirements from multiple customers. The applications and services are implemented using COTS, Sponsor's proprietary software, and custom software developed within the program. Data sources include customer repositories, other enterprise applications and services, and ad hoc text from end users. Outputs are consumed by end-users through browser-based applications, as well as by other enterprise applications and services.
The program seeks a Java developer with demonstrated experience delivering enterprise applications in a cloud environment, who will work as part of a small team performing agile/iterative development and service delivery. The project team is responsible for applications and services from inception to development to deployment to O&M, and is actively engaged in applying software development best practices, including Acceptance Test Driven Design, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration, and Configuration Management.
Candidate responsibilities will include development of web service and middleware applications, and automation of processes for building, testing, and deploying applications in traditional server and Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments. An ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of DevOps principles, practices and tools, and experience applying same to provision and maintain services in AWS.
Mandatory Skills:
1. Demonstrated experience within the past five years developing Java applications using JDK 6, 7, and/or 8, and deploying them to production servlet container environments under Linux, including troubleshooting and debugging issues in production.
2. Demonstrated experience within the past five years developing RESTful web services in Java, and deploying them to production servlet container environments under Linux.
3. Demonstrated experience within the past five years as a member of an agile development team engaging in best practices including either Test Driven Development (TDD) or Behavior Driven Development (BDD), refactoring, Continuous Integration (CI), and maintaining project documentation, with the ability to work both individually and collaboratively.
4. Demonstrated experience within the past five years with the following specific Java technologies, frameworks, and tools: Spring, JUnit (or comparable unit testing framework), Eclipse IDE (or a comparable Java IDE).
5. Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following specific Java technologies and frameworks: Spring MVC, JMS, Guava, jMock (or comparable mock object framework).
Desired Skills:
1. Demonstrated experience developing, packaging and deploying Ruby applications. Experience in Ruby unit testing frameworks such as RSpec and implementing ATDD scenarios and fixtures using a tool like Cucumber strongly desired.
2. Demonstrated experience with the following development tools and technologies: Git (or a comparable distributed version control system), Apache Maven.
3. Demonstrated experience with an automated build and deployment process such as a mainstream / industry standard CI server with Jenkins CI strongly preferred.
4. Demonstrated experience with JSON processing, with a preference for experience with Jackson and JSON Schema.
5. Demonstrated experience with XML processing, with experience with some or all of the following: XPATH, XQuery, XML Schemas, SAX or DOM, Saxon, and XSLT.
6. Demonstrated experience using Amazon Web Services SDKs, with preference for the Java SDK over Ruby or Python.
