Position Value Proposition:

The Assistant Project Engineer assists in managing the flow of technical information between the Graywolf Project Management team, customers, and subcontractors and vendors, while developing critical relationships with internal and external clients, through verbal and written communication.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Reviews design drawings and 3D BIM Models for accuracy and completeness, and coordinates resolution of discrepancies and/or missing information with customers, design team, other trades, detailing, shop, & field as may be necessary.
  • Coordinates project sequencing and basic detailing job setup including advance bills and shop and erection drawings.
  • Provides instructions and guidance tosteeldetailers in preparing models, shop drawings and erection drawings per project requirements and standards.
  • Monitors project schedulesregardingsubmittals, approvals, and shop fabrication releases.Identifyand communicatepossible delaysor problems toprojectmanagement team.
  • Organize detailing RFI process through formal RFI to customer and informal RFIโ€™s with the engineer, architect, and general contractor. Facilitates and fulfills other documentation efforts and duties and as may berequired.
  • Distribute and route drawings. Coordinate with Document Control to avoid delays andmaintainlogs.
  • Act as a liaison between shop, field,detailersand subcontractors to resolve fabrication and erection difficulties.
  • Communicate withGraywolfproject team.
  • Essential part of the Project Management Team in achieving successful project results.
  • This position requires travel to design and coordination meetings, fabricationfacilitiesand job sites.
  • Coordinates thedetailingefforts of various common subcontractors.
  • Serve as a direct link between Detailers, Project Managers, and other production departments and key trade partners,customer, other contractors, and Design Team as may berequired.
  • Work closely with Director of Project Management and Detailing Manager toassistwithselectionand training of incoming and current Project Engineers, FieldEngineersand/or Traineeโ€™s

Education/Training

High School Diploma or GED required. Preference given to candidates with Associateโ€™s Degree or training from an approved and accredited technical school in engineering, detailing, CAD/Computer Aided Drafting, BIM/Building Information Modeling and/or a Bachelorโ€™s Degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Management, Structural/Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Architectural or Business.

Work Experience

Preferred work experience with structural steel projects, including coordination, detailing, BIM and/or design. Experience with AWS and AISC is a plus

Specialized Knowledge

Ability to read and interpret design, shop and erection drawings. General understanding and knowledge of basic drafting skills, 3D modeling software/Tekla practices, fabrication and erection standards, standard technical terminology, common structural steel practices, and drafting room procedures.

Personal Computer; phone; Computer Software including: Microsoft Office platform, MS Office Word, Excel, and Outlook; Project management software including Procore, MS Project, Primavera scheduling, and Bluebeam; Fabrication software including PowerFab/FabSuite, Strumis and/or, Fabtrol; CAD/BIM software including AutoCAD, and Tekla. Experience with Revit, Navisworks, and other BIM programs.
