About the Role

Citi is hiring a Technology Lead Python Data Engineer (Vice President) to design and deliver scalable, Python-based platforms for credit risk analytics and decisioning. The role blends hands-on development, microservices and cloud-native architecture, AI/GenAI integration, and technical leadership to ensure performant, compliant enterprise systems.

Job Description Role

The Technology Lead Python Data Engineer (Vice President) will lead the design and delivery of modern, scalable platforms that support credit risk analytics, workflows, and reporting. This senior engineering leadership role combines hands-on Python development, system architecture, microservices design, and AI/GenAI-enabled innovation within an enterprise banking environment.

  • Build API-driven services and integrate platforms with risk, product, and technology teams.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards for coding, testing, CI/CD, debugging, and production readiness.
  • Apply AI and GenAI capabilities (including LLMs) to modernize workflows, automate analysis, and augment analytics.
  • Resolve high-impact, complex initiatives through analysis of business processes and system flows.
  • Serve as technical leader and mentor to mid-level engineers and analysts; allocate and prioritize work.

  • Proven expertise designing and implementing microservices architectures, including inter‑service communication, resiliency patterns, and observability.
  • Strong experience with Docker and Kubernetes; deploying and operating containerized services in production.
  • Experience working in Linux environments, including shell scripting and operational troubleshooting.
  • Strong track record implementing unit testing, test‑driven development (TDD), and automated quality controls.
  • Subject matter expert (SME) in at least one application, platform, or service domain.
  • Working knowledge of large language models (LLMs) and AI platforms (examples: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta) and experience contributing to LLM‑enabled solutions.
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering, model integration patterns, and AI governance in enterprise settings.
  • Exposure to modern “vibe coding” practices—leveraging AI‑assisted tooling to accelerate development while maintaining engineering rigor.
Preferred / Bonus Skills
  • Experience with distributed data and compute platforms (Spark, PySpark, Hadoop, Hive).
  • Hands‑on experience with graph databases, particularly Neo4j.
  • Background in credit risk, financial risk management, or banking platforms.
  • Experience modernizing or decomposing legacy monolithic systems in large enterprises.
  • Proven delivery of GenAI/AI‑driven solutions in regulated or large‑scale environments.
Work Style
  • Operate with a startup mindset: ownership, bias for action, and pragmatic innovation.
  • Deliver with enterprise discipline: stability, controls, transparency, and audit readiness.
  • Balance experimentation with responsibility in a high‑trust, high‑impact environment.
