POSITION SUMMARY
The Engineering Manager is responsible for driving operational efficiency in an electronics assembly and test environment. This role involves leading major improvement initiatives, managing and developing manufacturing and test engineers, and ensuring the site is equipped to support all manufacturing activities. Collaborating closely with the Operations Manager, the Engineering Manager will oversee process development in compliance with IPC, ISO, and customer standards, while serving as the technical liaison for customers and suppliers. Key responsibilities include coordinating engineering and support personnel, addressing manufacturing challenges, and fostering a culture of feedback and career development. The Engineering Manager will also contribute to new product introduction processes and participate in contract and design reviews. This position requires advanced technical, management, and relationship-building skills to effectively drive manufacturing strategies and enhance overall operational capabilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES

  • Lead major continuous improvement initiatives in an electronics assembly and test environment, striving for operational efficiency gains.
  • Hire, manage, direct, and develop all of the manufacturing and test engineers, as well as the Engineering Production Services team to best support production operations.
  • Works with Operations Manager to assure that the site is technically and organizationally capable of supporting all required manufacturing activities
  • Engineering Processes Management - Responsible for management of all manufacturing process development and improvement in compliance with IPC, ISO, customer, and in-house standards.
  • Represent the organization as technical contact for customers, OEMs, vendors, and suppliers, and participates with other senior managers in establishing strategic plans.
  • Coordinates the work of engineers, technicians, and other support personnel and interacts with marketing, accounting, supply chain, manufacturing, PCB Layout, and customers.
  • Works to facilitate timely solutions on miscellaneous manufacturing process problems dealing with production down time, loss of or low efficiency, or quality deviations.
  • Give specific feedback, coaching, and provide challenging assignments and opportunities for career development.
  • Develop processes around front-end engineering, NPI processing, post-delivery "lessons learned" communication.
  • Participates in the review of customer contracts and engineering designs by outlining requirements and considerations.
  • Drives manufacturing engineering strategies to deliver customer requirements and recommend capabilities in our manufacturing and engineering services.
  • Coordinate labor quoting activities across all sites.
  • Demonstrates advanced functional, technical and people and process management skills as well as excellent customer (external and internal) relationship skills, with expertise in multiple areas and industry

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. in an engineering or technical discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 10 yrs. experience in low-to-medium volume manufacturing with at least 5 years managing manufacturing engineers in accomplishing tasks, with prior experience as a SMT/PCBA Manufacturing Engineer or Process Engineer .
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of product design, manufacturing engineering, electronics manufacturing services (EMS), Test Services, PCB design, and layout services.
  • Excellent computer skills needed with strong proficiency in ERP / MRP systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Must possess adaptability and initiative.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to lead and manage individuals and/or teams in ways that enhance their results and performance.
  • Excellent working relationship with Operations Manager & Director of Quality a must while making changes to the organization.
  • Must be a team player with a strong sense of urgency and who can work effectively in a team environment. Ensure that operations, quality, maintenance and manufacturing engineering work proactively together.
  • Excellent analytical/problem solving, interpersonal, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess a very strong ability to provide leadership for change.
