Job Description
The Engineering Manager is responsible for driving operational efficiency in an electronics assembly and test environment. This role involves leading major improvement initiatives, managing and developing manufacturing and test engineers, and ensuring the site is equipped to support all manufacturing activities. Collaborating closely with the Operations Manager, the Engineering Manager will oversee process development in compliance with IPC and customer standards, while serving as the technical liaison for customers and suppliers. Key responsibilities include coordinating engineering and support personnel, addressing manufacturing challenges, and fostering a culture of feedback and career development. The Engineering Manager will also contribute to new product introduction processes and participate in contract and design reviews. This position requires advanced technical, management, and relationship-building skills to effectively drive manufacturing strategies and enhance overall operational capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead major continuous improvement initiatives in an electronics assembly and test environment, striving for operational efficiency gains.
- Hire, manage, direct, and develop all of the manufacturing and test engineers, as well as the Engineering Production Services team to best support production operations.
- Work with the Operations Manager to ensure the site is technically and organizationally capable of supporting all required manufacturing activities.
- Manage all manufacturing process development and improvement in compliance with IPC, customer, and in-house standards.
- Represent the organization as a technical contact for customers, OEMs, vendors, and suppliers, and participate with other senior managers in establishing strategic plans.
- Coordinate the work of engineers, technicians, and other support personnel and interact with marketing, accounting, supply chain, manufacturing, PCB Layout, and customers.
- Facilitate timely solutions to manufacturing process problems dealing with production downtime, loss of or low efficiency, or quality deviations.
- Provide specific feedback, coaching, and offer challenging assignments and opportunities for career development.
- Develop processes around front-end engineering, NPI processing, and post-delivery 'lessons learned' communication.
- Participate in the review of customer contracts and engineering designs by outlining requirements and considerations.
- Drive manufacturing engineering strategies to deliver customer requirements and recommend capabilities in manufacturing and engineering services.
- Coordinate labor quoting activities across all sites.
Essential Skills
- 5-10 years of experience with electronic or PCB manufacturing (PCB desirable).
- Knowledge of IPC standards.
- Experience leading or managing a team of engineers.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems.
- Advanced functional, technical, and people management skills.
- Excellent customer relationship skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with wave soldering.
- Experience with the person, Universal, and MyChronic systems.
- Interfacing with customers.
Work Environment
The company has roughly 200 employees, with the Engineering Manager overseeing a team of 5 engineers. The role involves collaboration with various departments and requires interaction with both internal and external customers.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Frederick, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $165000.00/yr.
