Job Summary

Southwire's Electrical Products division (EP) is responsible for the strategic growth of various lines of electrical equipment, lifting and material handling equipment, and electrical products and components. EP is looking for an experienced mechanical engineer to take managerial responsibility for new product development and engineering support for products released to the field for our electrical components product categories. This experienced individual will interface directly with project management, product managers, and operations on new products, engineering changes, and compliance requirements for products throughout their lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manages a team of engineers and technical professionals, ensuring that all team members are effectively aligned with organizational goals and projects. Provides leadership to the team, drive high performance, fostering professional development, and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Advise senior management on engineering strategies and help in making decisions that affect the department's short and long-term objectives. Provides guidance on project scopes, timelines, and resource allocation to ensure smooth execution of projects and adherence to project timelines
  • Engineering ownership of assigned products to ensure they are designed to meet all industry codes and standards to include NEC/NFPA, NEMA, UL, CSA, IEC, CEC, SAE, Prop 65 or other industry governing bodies requirements as necessary
  • Develop certification plans for products and coordinate third-party certification in conjunction with Product Compliance Manager
  • Ensure all engineering processes and protocols are followed for all assigned design projects to include FEA, DVP&R, DFMEA, design reviews, FAIR's, ECR and PRAPs. 
  • Direct the creation of design specifications per Program Manager and Project Manager requests. Ability to create all drawings, models and 3D printed models for assigned products
  • Coordinate processes and assignments within the engineering team to ensure the completion of projects in an efficient manner. Prioritize tasks based on urgency and business needs while maintaining the integrity of the project delivery schedule.
  • Devises and implements engineering strategies to meet organizational objectives. Use in-depth knowledge of engineering practices to propose innovative solutions and technical improvements that enhance productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Educate and mentor junior engineers and team members, providing coaching and career development guidance. Assists in skill-building and training initiatives to ensure the continued technical growth of the team.
  • Manage operational tasks related to people leadership, including recruitment, resource management, and conflict resolution. Provides continuous support to ensure that the team has the necessary resources to perform their roles efficiently.
Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent 
  • 4+ years of manufacturing or process engineering experience is preferred.
  • Progressive experience in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, product support, or product lifecycle management.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams, engineering programs, or cross-functional initiatives
  • Commitment to compliance, quality, and operational excellence throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to build strong cross-functional partnerships and drive responsive decision-making.
  • Proficiency in Solidworks and other CAD applications to include simulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Office, Project, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work independently, as well as in collaboration with other engineering and non-technical staff.
