Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer to take responsibility for the preparation, review, revision, and maintenance of various technical documents, including software and systems engineering, system operations, testing, and user documentation. As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for creating clear and concise technical content, such as installation guides, configuration guides, how-to documents, code documentation, implementation guides, end-user guides, field documentation, data definition, and data flow documentation. You will collaborate with technical personnel and utilize available resources to ensure accurate and comprehensive technical publications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides, manuals, and technical publications.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of basic concepts, including grammar, to produce well-written technical copy for different document types.
- Gather technical information and prepare written text, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Maintain an up-to-date internal documentation library.
- Utilize various word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.
- Collaborate with developers to produce high-quality documentation and training materials.
- Work on all phases of documentation, from gathering information to organizing and presenting technical content.
- Prepare reports, responses, and briefings tailored to diverse audiences.
- Coordinate the layout and design of documents.
- Conduct research on highly technical subject matter and present technical information in a clear and understandable written form.
- Apply technical writing concepts based on engineering drawings, engineering documentation, consultations with engineers, subject matter experts, and other available sources.
- Produce technical documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation for DoD electronic equipment and systems used by the end-user community.
- Interpret engineering and maintenance drawings and operational procedures to assimilate large volumes of computer-related information.
- Develop technical documentation for Cryptologic programs or projects involving analytic tradecraft methodologies.
- Adhere to technical manual standards, such as NSA DS-89, in creating work products.
- Provide expert oversight of technical writing and editing throughout the acquisition and technical documentation process.
- Work independently to prepare and maintain highly complex systems, programming, and operations documentation, procedures, and methods.
- Lead projects involving complex or extensive documentation and provide specialized documentation services when required.
- Review the work products of others to ensure compliance with the technical manual NSA Data Standard (DS)-89.
Requirements:
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience as a Technical Writer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
- A Master's degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience, reducing the requirement to six (6) years of experience.
- Four (4) years of additional Technical Writing experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
