Utility Special Programs - Electric

Sun Mountain LLC provides professional services for utility and infrastructure projects. The Sun Mountain Team has core competencies in civil infrastructure and utilities, construction management, project management and project controls.

Position overview:

This position will work side-by-side with the area's Electric Operations. The Electric Operations team ensures the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

This is a client-focused role that requires PMP adherence to Project Manager skills and duties and is responsible for all aspects of the development and implementation of assigned projects. This position has overall project management responsibility on multiple small to mid-size projects and provides a single point of contact for those projects. The Project Manager interacts with senior internal and external project stakeholders from estimating, engineering and design, environmental experts, traffic and encroachment permitting experts to customer care and government relations contact while communicating schedule and resources to Management, Electric Operations and Construction Management. Travel is estimated to be about 20% of the time.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

This is a DOT covered classification and subject to random drug testing.

Territory of Reasonability:

This position will be centralized in the Napa/Sonoma area; however, you will be responsible to drive to project sites/locations covering Northern California. Mileage and meals will be paid for. You will be assigned a local office where you will have assigned in-office work days, however you will be working from your home office primarily.

Travel:

Travel will be required. A reliable vehicle will be needed (not supplied). As a Project Manager you will have the ability to set your travel needs unless the project team or supervision determine otherwise.

Job Responsibilities:

Develops and defines project scope and objectives.

  • Establishes and leads project teams
  • Gets managers and key stakeholder buy-in on detailed work plans including schedule, cost, resources, contingency and communication plans.
  • Obtains management approval as needed and is responsible for project tracking and analysis of project costs, scope and schedule.
  • Ensures project documentation is maintained.
  • Develops, monitors and updates the project cash flow and financial forecasts.
  • Manages dates, operations, tasks and scheduling in current software system, SAP, MS Office, MS Teams, Project Scheduling Software,
  • Ensures all specialized materials are ordered in a timely manner.
  • Manages the integration of vendor tasks and tracks and reviews vendor deliverables.
  • Communicates project status on a regular basis to all stakeholders.
  • Assesses project risk and formulates mitigative contingency plans.
  • Implements quality standards, reviews project deliverables and communicates variances accordingly.
  • Identify and communicate lessons learned and incorporate prior lessons learned as best practices into projects.
  • Adjusts project scope, with program and project management supervisors approval.
  • Addresses gaps and unforeseen conditions timely and implements plans to alleviate schedule, resource and cost increases.
  • Manages multiple projects from start to finish while planning new program projects.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree from an accredited college or its equivalent in education and experience
  • 4 years of experience in project management, project controls, engineering, and/or construction
  • US Work Authorization

Desired:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • Knowledge and experience with electric substations, gas and electric distribution and transmission projects
  • Uses independent judgment in selecting and applying Project Management methods and techniques to determine cost-effective and practical solutions
  • Fluent in the use of Project Management tools and current company tools, such as SAP Financials and Work Management modules and Microsoft Project Scheduling Software
  • Able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Underground utilities or civil experience preferred
  • Ability to utilize computer programs.
