Job description

Our client is seeking an Internal Business Systems Project Manager to own and optimize its Atlassian ecosystem while leading internal business systems initiatives across the organization. This is a newly created position driven by company growth and is focused exclusively on internal operations; there are no customer-facing responsibilities.

Unlike a traditional Project Manager, this role is centered on improving how work flows across the business. The successful candidate will partner with stakeholders across Operations, Sales, Finance, IT, and leadership to optimize processes, increase project visibility, and ensure teams are leveraging Jira and Confluence effectively.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong hands-on experience administering and optimizing the Atlassian suite who is looking to expand their impact within an organization's internal project management function.

Responsibilities

Business Systems & Process Improvement

  • Own and continuously improve the organization's internal Atlassian environment to support business initiatives.
  • Partner with business leaders to understand operational needs and translate them into scalable Jira workflows and project structures.
  • Design and optimize workflows, issue types, boards, dashboards, and reporting to improve visibility and execution across departments.
  • Drive consistency in how projects, initiatives, and work requests are managed throughout the organization.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through workflow optimization and process standardization.

Internal Project Management

  • Lead internal cross-functional initiatives involving business systems, operational improvements, and process enhancements.
  • Coordinate projects across departments while managing priorities, timelines, risks, and dependencies.
  • Facilitate project planning sessions, stakeholder meetings, and status updates.
  • Maintain project documentation including project plans, decision logs, requirements, and process documentation.
  • Provide leadership with clear visibility into project health, priorities, and progress.

Atlassian Platform Ownership

  • Serve as the organization's primary functional expert for the Atlassian platform.
  • Configure and maintain Jira projects, workflows, issue types, dashboards, filters, boards, and reporting.
  • Optimize the use of:
  • Jira Project Discovery
  • Jira Service Management
  • Confluence
  • Establish best practices, governance, and consistent usage across business teams.
  • Partner with IT on technical implementation while owning the business configuration, structure, and overall platform strategy.
  • Train and coach internal users on Atlassian best practices and platform adoption.

Qualifications

Required

  • Approximately 3+ years of hands-on experience administering and optimizing Jira in a business environment.
  • Strong experience with:
  • Jira Project Discovery
  • Jira Service Management
  • Confluence
  • Demonstrated experience designing and improving Jira workflows, dashboards, permissions, boards, issue types, and reporting.
  • Experience supporting internal business users and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives while maintaining strong attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting internal business systems, operational initiatives, or enterprise applications.
  • Exposure to ERP, CRM, or systems integration projects.
  • Experience driving process improvement and organizational workflow optimization.

Candidates from any industry will be considered if they possess strong Atlassian platform expertise and a passion for improving business processes.

Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving organizational challenges through technology and process improvement. The ideal candidate understands how to leverage Jira and the broader Atlassian suite to create structure, visibility, and efficiency across an organization. They are collaborative, proactive, and comfortable partnering with stakeholders at all levels to improve how work gets done.
