HDR has an exceptional career opportunity for an experienced water industry professional to serve in a leadership position as our South Carolina (SC) Water Business Group (WBG) Project Delivery Leader (PDL). This position can be based out of any of our South Carolina offices and will require periodic travel across the area. As PDL, you will report to the South Carolina Water Business Group Manager (BGM) and work alongside the BGM to provide project review oversight and management of projects across four of the offices within South Carolina (Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, Fort Mill). You will collaborate closely with HDR's WBG Market Sector and Business Class Leads to transition strategic initiatives for business development into successful project delivery within the South Carolina Area. You will serve as the Principal in Charge, Project Sponsor, Project Manager or Client Manager for identified projects delivered within South Carolina, responsible for coordinating staffing and technical resources with service leaders throughout HDR.

As PDL, you will collaborate closely with South Carolina, North Carolina and Southeast Regional leadership to advance the technical delivery and mentorship of area staff. Your direct reports may include local Program Managers, Project Managers, Commercial Managers, and Collaborative Delivery Leads. In addition to your primary responsibilities as summarized below, the PDL will be responsible for collaborating on technical delivery and business development for cross-business group opportunities with HDR's Transportation, Resources, Architecture, and Building Engineering Services business groups. You will also support recruiting efforts to attract and retain eminent talent for our local program.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with the SC WBG Manager to oversee project delivery.
  • Develop and implement business group controls and reporting procedures to capture and manage project delivery, in alignment with corporate, regional, and area goals and practices.
  • Provide team organization and leadership for projects across Area offices.
  • Direct quality management system program.
  • Oversee and coordinate with quality, commercial management, production and BIM managers for the success of projects and business group.
  • Serve as member of project team that assists in development of project-specific Quality Management Plans and works in close cooperation with the Project Manager and Task Leads for monitoring and oversight of project quality activities
  • Work with Program/Project Managers to assess and incorporate lessons learned and client feedback from project reviews and client meetings
  • Manage quality deliverable schedule and document coordination between design discipline reviews
  • Manage design review and comment resolution process (schedule meetings with reviewers, negotiate mutually acceptable resolutions, escalate disputed issues, and track open comments to closure).
  • Lead QA/QC-related discussions during project team meetings.
  • Perform project reviews focusing on delivery oversight, financials, schedule, quality, and project staffing.
  • Coordinate with market sector leaders on technical staff assignments for projects across Area offices and workshare management with HDR Areas outside of South Carolina.
  • Work with Area WBG Professional Services to develop project management skills for staff across all Area offices (Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, Fort Mill).
  • Help serve as a champion for cross Business Group efforts.
  • Actively participate in recruiting efforts for the Area WBG program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in relevant Engineering fields (Civil, Environmental)
  • Prior related engineering and management consulting experience
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in a role focused on understanding and solving client issues in the area's water permitting, planning, and design practice
  • History of successful project and/or program management with a focus on technical delivery and project leadership
  • History of successful leadership of major BD campaigns and understanding of the framework and tools used to understand our client's needs and develop winning strategies and marketing materials
  • Demonstrated success in cultivating client relationships to win pursuits and execute projects, especially in the local markets
  • Success in initiating and managing growth
  • A team-first collaborative attitude
  • Self-motivated requiring minimal oversight
  • Well-organized with multi-tasking skills
  • Able to work under and meet tight deadlines
  • Well-developed analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to interact with design and construction teams positively and proactively
  • Document control experience (ProjectWise a plus)
  • South Carolina PE (demonstrated ability to obtain by comity within 6 months of hire is acceptable)
  • Local candidates are preferred
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 15 years related experience
  • A minimum 7 years project management experience
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • MS Office and MS Project experience is required (Access experience would be plus)
  • Demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
