Job description

Overview

VTG is seeking a Program Manager to lead the Warfare Systems Business Area which is part of the Engineering Systems Business Unit in the company’s Defense Division. In this role, the candidate will manage engineering, program management, acquisition management and support services. This role is ideal for a proactive professional looking to accelerate their career. Key responsibilities include driving team performance, delivering strategic leadership, cultivating talent through mentorship, and establishing actionable performance metrics. The candidate will own the performance management cycle—from setting goals and providing ongoing mentoring to driving team leadership and accountability. This is a hybrid role at our Washington, DC office.


What will you do?
  • Familiarity with the Department of the Navy mission and sea systems that must interoperate with platforms that operate in space, in the air, on the sea, or below the sea.
  • Work in a team environment and provide guidance, direction, and supervision in all areas of contracted effort, including cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Prepare or review financial reports, status reports and other data to assess performance in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Work closely with Government program leadership and Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) to provide program assistance and ensure program objectives are achieved within cost, schedule, and technical performance requirements.
  • Plan, prepare, and present program reviews and internal briefings.
  • Define staffing requirements and participate in personnel screening, interviewing, and hiring to ensure funded billets are filled expeditiously, working closely with talent acquisition.
  • Manage reporting portals and data/document repositories using tools like SharePoint, Costpoint, and Technomile.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and prospective customers, and industry partners.
  • Identify and understand federal government customer requirements and resulting business opportunities.
  • Identify, shape and develop potential business opportunities including- capture plans and proposal strategies and competitor analysis; assist in the development and review of key proposals and support the proposal development process.
  • Report to the Business Unit leader and the Defense Division President, and on occasion to the CEO.
  • Assist in maintaining the Business Development databases.

Do you have what it takes?
  • At least 10+ years of professional experience working with defense acquisition. (10) years of experience in support of Department of Navy Programs in project/acquisition management. (2) years of new business development for Navy Programs.
  • BS/BA (Masters preferred) degree in Engineering or Business Management, or AS/AA degree and an additional four (4) years of relevant experience may be substituted.
  • PMP or DAWIA-Certified Program Manager.
  • Must have an active DOD Secret Clearance or eligibility to gain a clearance.
  • Understand professional service contracting and government acquisition lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking, analyze data and make informed decisions or recommendations, and have a very good work ethic.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong MS Office Suite experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior Navy civilian or military experience (veteran) is valued

VTG’s estimated starting pay range is $120,000-$175,000 which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
