In this role, you will partner with the Program Manager to support daily program operations, promote a person-centered approach to care, and help create a positive, engaging environment where individuals can thrive. Position Summary


The Life Skills Assistant Program Manager assists individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in achieving their highest level of independence through person-centered services and supports. This position works closely with the Program Manager to ensure quality programming, maintain a safe and engaging environment, support staff, and promote positive outcomes for the individuals served.

The Assistant Program Manager serves as a leader within the program by fostering teamwork, supporting daily operations, and ensuring compliance with agency standards and regulatory requirements.


Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Program Support
  • Monitor the health, safety, and well-being of all individuals served.
  • Assist with implementing and monitoring Individual Program (IP) goals.
  • Administer medications in accordance with certification requirements and agency policies.
  • Attend support plan and Individual Program meetings as assigned.
  • Provide administrative support to the Program Manager and instructional staff.
  • Coordinate and oversee custodial crew responsibilities.
  • Serve as a Life Skills Instructor when needed to ensure program continuity.
  • Monitor daily classes to ensure activities are engaging, inclusive, and goal-oriented.
  • Familiarize yourself with individual behavior plans and ensure staff understand and follow required protocols.
  • Build supportive and professional relationships with individuals, families, guardians, and support networks.
  • Recognize changes in an individual's physical or emotional condition and communicate concerns promptly.
  • Assist individuals with meals, personal care, transitions, mobility, and other daily living activities as needed.
  • Support daily arrival and dismissal procedures.
  • Maintain supply inventories and communicate program needs.
  • Coordinate community outings and enrichment activities.
  • Assist with social media content highlighting program activities and achievements.
  • Ensure the facility remains clean, safe, and sanitized according to organizational standards.
  • Communicate maintenance concerns and assist with coordinating resolutions.
  • Ensure incident reports are completed and submitted in compliance with APD guidelines.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Maintain daily notes and progress summaries related to support plan and implementation plan goals.
  • Report incidents, accidents, concerns, or operational challenges immediately to the Program Manager.
  • Prepare and submit General Event Reports in accordance with agency and APD requirements.
  • Enter documentation into designated electronic systems daily.
Additional Duties
  • Assist individuals when boarding and exiting transportation.
  • Serve as a positive role model through professionalism, communication, attitude, and conduct.
  • Plan and facilitate activities that support individual goals, enrichment, community participation, and physical wellness.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
  • Attend required trainings and professional development activities.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned


Requirements:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in:
    • Direct care services,
    • Medical, psychiatric, nursing, or adult care settings, or
    • Supporting individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to successfully pass a Level II Background Screening.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain medication administration certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Passion for supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective during emergencies or challenging situations.
  • Dependable, punctual, and adaptable.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics, including use of adaptive equipment when necessary.
  • Understanding of person-centered services and commitment to delivering high-quality support.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to provide personal care and hygiene assistance when needed.
  • Ability to participate in community outings and occasional outdoor activities.
  • May have periodic exposure to bodily fluids and other potential health-related hazards.
