Job description

Position Summary...The Director, Strategic Initiatives – ESG Strategy – Human Capital  leads the shared value strategy and disclosure approach for an issue portfolio relating to people, including our associate workforce and supplier opportunity.  This role is accountable for producing external disclosures (e.g., ESG report, stakeholder- and investor-facing disclosures, and responses to common ESG questionnaires/ratings), ensuring alignment with evolving reporting frameworks and regulatory expectation; advising colleagues on Walmart’s shared value agenda; assessing Walmart’s performance; and engaging external stakeholders to understand expectations, influence standards and ratings, and share Walmart performance. This position reports to the Senior Director, ESG Strategy.
About the team:
The ESG Strategy team helps shape Walmart’s approach to creating shared value, strengthening business resilience, and building stakeholder trust. We work across the enterprise to develop strategies, advance performance, and produce clear, decision-useful disclosures on Walmart’s priority ESG issues. This role will join a collaborative, high-performing team and partner closely with leaders across People, Supplier Opportunity, Investor Relations, Corporate Communications, Legal, and other functions.  What you'll do...Lead the development and writing of assigned People-related sections of Walmart’s ESG report, from initial framing and drafting through review, validation, and final publication. Shape related disclosures and messaging for investors and thought leaders, ensuring alignment with evolving reporting standards. Advise colleagues on Walmart’s people-related shared value agenda and disclosures; track developments in the space; develop issue and reporting strategies; and guide aspirations, policies, practices, targets, metrics, and performance initiatives. Lead complex, cross-functional research, benchmarking, and policy projects. Engage investors, NGOs, standard setters, raters, suppliers, and coalitions to gather feedback, influence standards, and communicate Walmart’s performance.

  • Strong corporate disclosure and report-writing experience: translating technical inputs into clear, concise, decision-useful narratives for external audiences (investors, raters, policymakers, NGOs).
  • Visionary thinking backed by strong strategic and analytical framing 
  • Strength in leading through influence and aligning various stakeholders
  • Collaborative mindset with strong project management skills 
  • The ability to pick up on new concepts quickly, synthesize information, and generate insights

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
