Job description

Our organization, in collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is excited to announce an opening for a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist (Perinatologist) at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan. This role is integrated into the Shared Service Line Model of NYC Health + Hospitals.

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialist to join our vibrant, multidisciplinary Obstetrics team. The ideal candidate will be focused on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care for complex and high-risk pregnancies while also contributing to clinical excellence, education, and system-wide quality improvement. This position provides a collaborative environment that includes general obstetrics, midwifery, neonatology, anesthesiology, social work, and care coordination teams, all aimed at enhancing perinatal outcomes and promoting maternal health equity.

Opportunity Details:Clinical Care Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive consultations for high-risk pregnancies, addressing both maternal and fetal complications.
  • Perform and interpret advanced obstetric ultrasounds, fetal echocardiography (if applicable), Doppler studies, and prenatal diagnostic procedures.
  • Assess fetal health through NSTs and BPPs as necessary.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and other specialists to optimize outcomes for mothers and infants.
  • Provide labor and delivery coverage for complex cases as required.
Diagnostic and Procedural Duties:
  • Conduct ultrasounds during the first, second, and third trimesters.
  • Perform amniocentesis and CVS (if applicable).
  • Manage fetal assessments, NSTs, and BPPs.
  • Oversee the management of hypertensive disorders, diabetes, multiple gestations, placenta accreta spectrum, preterm birth prevention, and other high-risk conditions.
Teaching and Education:
  • Supervise and educate residents, fellows (if applicable), medical students, and sonographers.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, simulation training, and quality improvement initiatives in Obstetrics and High-Risk Obstetrics.
Shared Service Expectations:
  • Your primary work location will be at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan.
  • Provide remote telephone consultations for MFM during nights and weekends for shared service facilities.
  • Offer remote coverage as needed for other NYC Health + Hospitals facilities outside the main region.
  • Deliver clinical coverage for other hospitals in the Manhattan area as required.
  • Provide emergency coverage for other NYC Health + Hospitals facilities as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certified in General Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Maternal Fetal Medicine.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in New York.
  • Proven commitment to high-quality clinical care, teamwork, and advancing maternal health equity.
  • Annual Base Salary: $485,400* (board eligible); $495,400* (board certified) based on a 40-hour work week and 17 weeks of required night/weekend call and other coverage.
  • Any additional night/weekend call beyond the required 17 weeks will be compensated at a rate of $25 per hour.
Compensation and Benefits:

The estimated total annual value of the compensation package is approximately $630,600** (board eligible) and $640,600** (board certified), which includes the base salary, 401(k) contributions, sessional/per diem hours, and other factors outlined below:

  • Estimated annual compensation for 10 additional sessional/per diem hours worked per week is $70,200.
  • Potential bonus of up to $40,000 (based on the previous year's average), contingent upon meeting quality and productivity targets.
  • 401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS limits):
    • Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings, with no employee match required.
    • After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings, with no employee match required.
  • Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) Reimbursement.
  • Generous Annual Paid Time Off (PTO): including vacation, sick leave, holidays, and CME days.
  • Medical, Prescription, and Dental Coverage: Premium plans with employee contributions significantly below market rates.
  • Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Coverage: Equal to 2x your salary (up to a maximum of $300,000) at no cost to you.
    • Additional employee-paid Voluntary Life and AD&D coverage is available for you and your family.
  • Loan Forgiveness: This position may qualify for loan forgiveness through specific state or federal programs.
  • Medical Malpractice Coverage (equivalent to occurrence-based): Provided at no cost to the employee.
  • Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs).
  • Pre-tax employee-paid contributions for commuting expenses.
  • Visa sponsorship will be considered for this position.
