Job description

Position Title: Furniture Pickup and Delivery Associate

Primary Function: In collaboration with the Furniture and Donation Associate, the Furniture Pickup and Delivery Associate is responsible for picking up and delivering in-kind donations and furniture given by our Upstate community. In addition, this role is responsible for delivering and maintaining inventory of routine and as-needed shelter supplies as well as furniture and household goods for clients as they transition out of shelter into stable housing.

This position requires knowledge and practice of proper lifting techniques including the use of furniture dollies, ladders, and furniture-lift straps. This position also requires upper body strength and regular and consistent lifting/carrying.

Hours will generally be weekdays from 8am-4pm but may be flexible or altered based on business needs.   

This is a full time, hourly, non-exempt position

Supervisor:  Volunteer and Development Manager

Primary Job Responsibilities:

In-Kind Donation Requests

  • Work closely with the Furniture Sales and Donations Coordinator & the Furniture and Donation Associate to manage donations calendar and pickup requests from donors for furniture and in-kind donations
  • Pick up furniture and in-kind donations as scheduled and move them to warehouse storage or Resale Shop
  • Work with Resale Shop staff to determine furniture needs and make weekly/as-needed deliveries from warehouse storage to Resale Shop
  • Deliver needed supplies to Safe Harbor shelters/offices
  • Collaborate with volunteers to inventory, organize, and distribute items at the storage warehouse

 

Client Support

  • Fulfill and deliver furniture and household goods to client’s apartments/houses
  • Assist in setup, assembly, and arranging of furniture upon delivery
  • Collaborate with volunteers to assist with client move outs

 

Inventory and Reporting

  • Support all documentation and tracking for donation, inventory, and scheduled pick-ups

 

Maintenance and Upkeep

  • In collaboration with the Volunteer and Development Manager and the Furniture and Donation Associate, ensure warehouse storage and box truck remain clean and in good repair
  • Support the routine and as-needed disposal or removal of items from warehouse storage and the Resale Shop


General

  • Assist in set up and removal of items for program or organization events
  • Support the organization and movement of larger items at all agency locations as needed
  • Participate in Resale Shop special events and assist with staffing at Furniture Warehouse as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by Volunteer and Development Manager


Primary Qualifications:

Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Relevant experience in delivery, warehouse operations, moving, logistics, or customer service may be considered in lieu of formal education

Work Experience

  • Experience driving and operating a box truck preferred
  • Knowledge of proper lifting techniques including use of furniture dollies, ladders, and lift straps required
  • Experience with moving companies preferred

  • This role regularly requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling furniture and related materials, with or without assistance, typically up to 50–75 lbs.
  • Employees must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Work involves repetitive movements, including gripping, handling, and operating hand tools and equipment.
  • Duties may require working in varying indoor and outdoor environments, including warehouses, loading docks, delivery sites, and customer residences.
  • Ability to climb stairs, navigate tight spaces, and maneuver large items safely is essential.
  • This position requires the ability to safely operate delivery vehicles and material-handling equipment, where applicable.
