ABOUT THE YMCA:
Established locally in 1944, the YMCA of Southern Nevada is one of the region’s longest-serving and most-respected nonprofit organizations. POSITION SUMMARY:
The YMCA of Southern Nevada is looking for a Youth Development Director to join our team! Under the direction of the Branch Executive Director, the Youth Development Director develops, organizes, implements and oversees high quality YMCA child-care and family engagement programs such as Summer Camp, Kid's Gym, Teen Programs, and Parent's Night Out. This individual is responsible for program expansion, supervising staff, and day to day operations at the branch level. This is a full-time in person position located at the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manages, directs, and coordinates Youth & Family programs at the branch level.
- Conducts program quality assessments, determines corrective action, and sets goals in direct response. Key decision maker in what to start, stop, or improve at the branch level.
- Establishes new programs, activities, and revenue streams. Expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Determines the what, when, where, and how of new programming.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and oversees seasonal, part-time, and full-time personnel and as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and nurture high performers. Responsible for succession planning within department.
- Develops, manages, and controls budget. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Fulfills administrative duties related to budgeting, including budget tracking, purchase orders, and payroll. Tracks financial goals, and forecasts future budget.
- Ensures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program operations, equipment, and facilities. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety and emergency procedures are followed by all staff. Plans and facilitates audits and drills, and coaches staff in audit debrief. Keeps policies up to date.
- Updates, communicates, and implements policy and system changes to ensure program safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Develops and maintains relationships with community partners and parents. Assesses opportunities for new partnerships and makes recommendations to Branch Executive Director.
- Maintains proper records and department files ensuring all documentation and certifications are current. Meets deadlines and responds to all communication in a timely and professional manner. Performs additional administrative tasks as needed.
- Plans, organizes, and coordinates YMCA summer camp programs at the branch level, including seasonal hiring and training of staff.
- Primary point of contact for parent or child de-escalation conversations and behavior modification using proven strategies. Resolves issues calmly and effectively.
- Keeps up with industry trends in child/youth development. Evaluates the Y’s Youth Development business practices and provides feedback for continued improvement. Makes recommendations to Branch Executive Director.
- Performs all other duties as assigned, including stepping in to work in front line programs as often as is needed. Maintains a flexible schedule with the ability to work early mornings, evenings, or weekends.
ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS:
- Follows employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
- Provides employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.
- Provides employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.
- Requires employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.
- Responds seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
- Follows mandated reporting requirements.
- Communicates to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their consumers from abuse.
- Reports essential abuse risk management information to their supervisor, executive director, or human resources.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises part-time staff in the Youth & Family Department at one branch. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints, resolving problems and reporting observations to the COO or Branch Executive Directors. Demonstrates enthusiasm in all areas of work. Maintains frequent positive communication with staff and works cooperatively with others. Ensures all programs are properly staffed, equipped and well informed. Ensures all assigned staff complete necessary paperwork in a timely manner, monitors their payroll and adheres to human resources responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in child/youth development related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a role with administrative responsibilities
- Minimum of 2 year of experience supervising staff with a proven track record of developing rising stars for advancement
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Subject matter expert in child/youth development
- Polished speaker who is comfortable presenting in large and small groups that may include board members, executives, school principals, and staff members
- Ability to think strategically and use evidence-based principles to grow programs and drive results
